Scott was simply a great bloke.

He was great to be around. Always made you laugh and there was never a dull moment with Scott.

Mind numbingly clever, not only would he always find an answer, he would also find the time to explain it to you. He was a great teacher.

You don't meet many people like Scott, in our industry but you do meet a lot that want to be like him.

This is simply horrible news, a great loss and my sincere condolences go out to his family.

For the past 7 years I have had the privilege of being Scott's Manager at McDATA/Brocade. I knew him before this and always had tremendous respect for him. That made the respect that he always had for me all the more valuable. I am so blessed to have walked the path of life with Scott, even though it was for all too brief a time. Every day, I can see - and feel - his influence and far reaching legacy. He meant so much to so many both professionally and personally. We all mourn our loss of his kind soul on this earth but it is to you, his family, that my heart goes out. Thank you for sharing him with us. We are all richer for that and we will always hold him dear in our hearts.

I'm grateful to have known and learned from Scott. I looked up to him as a mentor. He was the most intelligent person that I have ever met. Reading through the other posts on the guest book definitely sums it up as I cannot say enough about him. He was an extraordinary person both in his profession and personal life. I'm very saddened by the unexpected news. I send my thoughts and prayers.

God saw Scott getting tired and a cure was not to be. God broke our hearts to prove to us that he only takes the best.

I worked with Scott for the past nine years; he was a wonderful mentor and friend. Scott was often requested by our customers to solve some of the most difficult problems. His knowledge and tenacity would allow him to resolve these issues in minimal time. He was one of the greatest technologists I have ever known. Scott was always teaching. If you needed to find an answer to a problem and the answers were nowhere to be found, simply call Scott and he would know where to find the answer or more likely just tell you what you needed to know. Scott did this willingly and was always happy to share his knowledge.
During our travels, Scott would sometimes talk about his family. It always brought a smile to his face when he could share little tidbits about his kids and grandchildren. He was very proud of all of them; I know he loved them dearly.
I am a better person for knowing Scott. Whenever I am in trouble and need inspiration to resolve my issues I think; “what would Scott do in a situation like this”? The answers soon follow. I appreciate the time I had to learn from him and will carry his teachings with me wherever I go.

It was with tear-blurred vision and a heavy heart that I read the news of Scott’s passing. Scott was many things to many people: husband, father, mentor, and friend, but he was also much more. Scott inspired us, awed and amazed us, and typified the kind of person that we would like aspire to.

He possessed great wisdom and humility, two adjectives not often used together. He was confident in not only his ability to solve or understand an issue, but to communicate it, so that others could understand it as well.

I remember working an issue with him, and watching the zeal and enthusiasm that was uniquely Scott, as he solved each of many puzzles, like peeling back the layers of an onion, until he figured out the root cause.

He could laugh at himself too. I remember playing paintball with him once in the mountains. We had signs that we would use to identify each other from the opposing team, but Scott’s mask got fogged up and he couldn’t see well. Someone waved at him, and Scott, being Scott, he waved back. The wave was not the appropriate sign and that game ended quickly for Scott. We all laughed about that, but none harder than Scott.

He was my friend and I miss him.

Scott will be greatly missed. I'll miss his beautiful smile, his laugh, but most of all his friendship.
My prayers and thoughts go out to my extended family. I've always been proud to call him my brother. What an extraordinary person this world has lost.

Scott was the guy who was
Always ready with a smile and a laugh,
Looking out for others and ready to help,
Looking for the solution, instead of fretting over the problem.
The world is a sadder place without him in it.
