Scott Olson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 5, 2026.
Scott Olson, age 50, of Ely, MN died on Saturday, January 3rd, 2025 at home.

Scott was born in Ely Minnesota on September 1st, 1975 to Mark and Margie Olson. He was the older brother of Brian "Detchka" Olson. He was a 1994 graduate of Ely High School and earned his degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1998. He met his wife, Angela (Johnson) Olson in Ely and they got married on June 17th, 2000. Together they had a son, Luke Olson, born on September 7th, 2001 and a daughter, Lauren Olson, born on January 15th, 2004.

Scott was a lifelong resident of Ely. During his high school years, he had a passion for sports – most notably as a standout running back in football and a centerman in hockey. His love for hockey was carried throughout his life as a high school and youth referee and a coach for his son's youth teams. He loved the outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. Later in his life he valued staying busy, either working on projects in his hangar or collecting and chopping wood. He was a loyal friend who appreciated having a good conversation or cracking a joke with anyone. Most of all, Scott was an altruistic and devoted family man. His children meant everything to him, and he loved traveling to watch Luke compete in track and Lauren perform in dance. He also enjoyed taking good care of his dogs, going on vacations, and spending time supporting and being with his family.

Scott is survived by his wife Angela Olson, children Luke (Jacy) and Lauren Olson, parents Mark and Margie Olson, brother Brian Olson, father-in-law Curt Johnson, mother-in-law Linda Johnson, brothers-in-law Phil and Bryan (Marcella) Johnson, grandparents Robert and Patricia Olson, godparents Chris and Denise Norman, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Joe and Rosemarie Buchner, uncles Robert "Ropey" Buchner and David Olson, and cousin Cody Olson.

Scott will always be known for being a devoted, hard-working, and caring father, husband, son, brother, and friend. Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with visitation doors opening at 10:00 am. Lunch will be served following the service.
