Scott Peyla Obituary

Scott Richard Peyla
Born: December 13, 1958 in Joliet, IL
Died: September 22, 2025 in Fort Myers, FL
Scott R. Peyla, age 66, of Fort Myers, FL passed away September 22, 2025 at HealthPark Medical Center. He was born on December 13, 1958, in Joliet, IL the son of the late Charles R. and Jacquelyn J. (Smith) Peyla. Scott lived a life marked by deep love, loyalty, and generosity.
He attended Joliet Catholic High School from 1973 to 1977, graduating with a college preparatory diploma. He continued his education at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Communications in 1981.
Scott began his professional career at Illinois Securities Company, a family business founded by his father, Charles R. Peyla. He worked as an agency manager in the insurance sales department, demonstrating integrity and professionalism throughout his career.
In 1984, during a vacation to Fort Myers Beach, Scott met Terry Stead-the love of his life-at Batiki West Condominiums, where Terry was the manager. Their connection was instant and enduring. Soon after, Scott made the life-changing decision to leave Chicago and move permanently to Fort Myers to build a life together with Terry. Their partnership spanned over 41 wonderful years, filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
In 2008, Scott and Terry moved to Reflection Key in Fort Myers, where Scott worked for over 10 years doing light maintenance and cleaning for the condominium association. He took pride in his work and in the community they called home.
Scott was a man of great heart-outgoing, sincere, and loyal. He loved reading, especially his favorite devotional, Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young, which he read each morning. He had a deep appreciation for the water and enjoyed boating, water skiing, and spending time in Whitehall, Michigan, with family and friends.
Scott cherished his relationships and made everyone feel like family. His love for Terry was unwavering-he always put Terry first, and their devotion to one another was evident to all who knew them.
He will be deeply missed by his loving partner of over four decades, Terry W. Stead; sister, Lynn Peyla Lockhart and her husband Tim of North Las Vegas, NV; beloved nephew, Eli Lockhart of North Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Steven Aimaro of Fort Myers, FL; step-mother, Pat Peyla of Estero, FL; and step-brother, Dustun Peyla of Junction City, KS. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Leah Peyla and Susanne Peyla Aimaro.
Scott leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider performing an act of kindness in Scott's memory-something he did naturally and often.
A few of Scott's favorite prayers are below -
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. ---PSALM 5:3
I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.---PSALM 16:8
The is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.---JOHN 4:18
