Jay Scott Phelps, age 62, of Marianna, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on August 28, 2025. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, Scott lived a life marked by faith, family, and an unwavering commitment to building—both in his professional craft and in the lives of those he loved.

Scott was a master builder whose passion for construction began in his teenage years and never faded. Over the decades, his skill shaped countless homes and buildings across the region, leaving a legacy not just in wood and stone, but in the communities he helped restore and uplift—especially through his tireless volunteer work following Hurricane Michael.

Later in life, Scott pursued and achieved his master’s degree, a goal that led him to two of his dream roles: teaching and mentoring at Chipola College and Blountstown High School. His students, colleagues, and community often said he was a bright light in their lives—someone who brought wisdom, humility, and deep care to every interaction.

Above all else, Scott treasured his family. The true highlight of his life was the decades of camping trips, fishing outings, and countless adventures in the woods hunting at “Nayonaise Ol Huntin Camp”. He was an avid fisherman who found joy and peace on the water, and he poured that same joy into his family traditions—memories he held close and stories he shared with laughter and pride together with family at Cape San Blas and Lake Talquin. . He also loved to cook and was the family chef, preparing meals with care and enthusiasm for everyone to enjoy, especially on Sundays for his in-laws. These experiences helped shape his family’s foundation of love, faith, and togetherness.

Scott was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and attended Eastside Baptist Church in Marianna. He lived out his faith in both word and deed, serving others through his work, his kindness, and his leadership. He was proud to serve on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Marianna, where he used his gifts to bless those in need. Alongside his wife Pam, Scott was deeply involved in the Marianna sports community, running the concession stand for over 15 years, supporting local teams and fostering community spirit. He loved his concessions family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pam Phelps; his sons, Jay Phelps and Lyle Phelps; his son Jay’s girlfriend, Rachel Durastanti; his sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Fuzzy Edwards; his niece, Holli Revell, and her husband, Silas; his nephews, Wade Chalker, Drew Chalker, and Tim Scott; his brother-in-law, Dickie Dannels; and his cherished in-laws, John and Pat King.

Scott was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Donna and Earl Phelps, and his sisters, Donna Gail Martin and Deborah Dannels.

Scott’s life was a testimony of grace, perseverance, and love. He built not only structures, but a life and a legacy that will stand strong for generations to come.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at 3:00 Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Eastside Baptist Church. Family will receive friends at 2:00. All who knew and loved him are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Scott’s memory to Habitat for Humanity of Marianna or Eastside Baptist Church, causes that reflect the heart of his life’s work and faith.
