Scott Eric Schmidt was born October 27, 1967 to Robert and Judy (Doeden) Schmidt at the Johnson County Hospital in
Tecumseh, Nebraska. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Lincoln at the age of 55.
Scott was raised on the family farm and was involved in 4-H showing cattle. He attended Nemaha Valley Schools in Cook where he was involved in band and as trainer for the boys' athletic teams. He was a history buff and memorized the U.S. Presidents in order at an early age. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling to many historical sites and museums.
He was always interested in medicine, and at age 16 became an EMT and joined the Cook Rescue Squad. Scott remained a squad member until his high school graduation in 1986. After graduation, he received his paramedic training from Creighton University in Omaha. He worked as a paramedic in Kansas City and Lincoln. While in Lincoln, he decided to further his education and completed his pre-med studies at Nebraska Wesleyan while working in the ER at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Des Moines University. After his emergency medicine internship and residency in
Cleveland, Ohio, he came back to work in the ER at St. Elizabeth's. Scott was board certified in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine.
He is survived by his parents of Cook, sisters Lisa of Lincoln and Beth of Auburn, nephews Wil (Erin) Gleason of
Shakopee, Minnesota and Chris (Amanda) Gleason of
Fort Collins, Colorado, great niece Billie and great nephews Kian and Kit, aunts and uncle Grace Schmidt and Dale and Barbara Mueller, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents William and Virginia Schmidt and Fritz and Ruth Doeden, aunt and uncles Stan and Bev Wiebke and Rodney Schmidt.
A private family graveside service is planned at a later date.
