Scott Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept.15th., at the age of 72. He is survived by his brothers, Brad and Chris and sisters Bernadette and Susan. He is also survived by his partner Sandy Sewell, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A lifelong resident of Rockland County, Scott grew up in Pearl River, and lived in Bardonia the past 44 years. Born with Cerebral Palsy, Scott attended Jawonio in New City throughout his childhood. As Program Director at Westchester Disabled on the Move, Scott led a team responsible for providing access to services, support and advocacy for the disabled community.
Scott's life-work and passion was advocacy. He served on several boards and committees and worked with community groups at the local, state and national level to support: The Americans with Disability Act, the Rockland County Yeager Center, Rockland and Westchester County, Paratransit programs, the national Interdependent Living movement and numerous others. He often traveled to local government offices and to the State capital and Washington DC to gain support.
Scott's loves included, music, reading, continuous learning and family and friends. He left his mark helping many others throughout his life and will be remembered and missed by all of those he touched and loved with hope that spirit will shine on us all.

What we remember most about Scott is his huge smile and laugh! Fondest memories is gatherings we had at Chilies in the Palisades Mall to celebrate Sandy & Scotts birthdays!. Always a fun time! Scott was in his element at the Rockland Social Network dances that Sandy put together for those in Rockland County with disabilities. He loved being behind the microphone singing and he sure did love his Rock & Roll! He will truly be missed. What we learned from Scott is that we are all equal, just some stand thru life and some sit thru life, but we are all the same.
With condolences and Love, Ruth & George
