Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bland Funeral Home - Petersburg on Jan. 19, 2026.
Selina Sharon Pearson was born in New York City on August 21, 1955, to the late Rachel Beverly Crum and Malcolm McMillan.
After graduating from high school in 1973, Selina enlisted in the United States Navy in 1974, embarking on a distinguished and honorable career of service. She spent the majority of her working life proudly serving her country. Her naval assignments included Personnel Support Detachment, 32nd Street, San Diego-one of her favorite duty stations-followed by Barbers Point, Hawaii; Naval Air Station Miramar, California; Navy Broadcasting Department Head at Diego Garcia; back-to-back tours in Yongsan, Seoul, Korea; Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Navy Security Detachment, Bahrain; the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; and her final tour with United States Forces Korea.
In 1982, Selina met Billard Pearson, and they were united in marriage in 1988. From this union, two children were born, Zilphy and Ronald Pearson. Together, Selina and Billard traveled the world, opening their home to anyone in need of a place to rest. Their home was always filled with love, laughter, good meals, and heartfelt fellowship. Selina possessed a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel valued and special. She and Billard were devoted members of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Throughout her naval career, Selina received numerous commendations, including four Navy Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Medals, three Overseas Service Ribbons, two National Defense Medals, and three Meritorious Unit Citations. Following her military retirement, she continued her service as an Intake Specialist at the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey, California, where she retired after ten years of dedicated civilian service. She later relocated to Hopewell, Virginia, to be closer to her children and sisters.
