Selina Pearson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bland Funeral Home - Petersburg on Jan. 19, 2026.
Selina Sharon Pearson was born in New York City on August 21, 1955, to the late Rachel Beverly Crum and Malcolm McMillan.

After graduating from high school in 1973, Selina enlisted in the United States Navy in 1974, embarking on a distinguished and honorable career of service. She spent the majority of her working life proudly serving her country. Her naval assignments included Personnel Support Detachment, 32nd Street, San Diego-one of her favorite duty stations-followed by Barbers Point, Hawaii; Naval Air Station Miramar, California; Navy Broadcasting Department Head at Diego Garcia; back-to-back tours in Yongsan, Seoul, Korea; Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Navy Security Detachment, Bahrain; the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; and her final tour with United States Forces Korea.

In 1982, Selina met Billard Pearson, and they were united in marriage in 1988. From this union, two children were born, Zilphy and Ronald Pearson. Together, Selina and Billard traveled the world, opening their home to anyone in need of a place to rest. Their home was always filled with love, laughter, good meals, and heartfelt fellowship. Selina possessed a welcoming spirit that made everyone feel valued and special. She and Billard were devoted members of the Masons and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Throughout her naval career, Selina received numerous commendations, including four Navy Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Medals, three Overseas Service Ribbons, two National Defense Medals, and three Meritorious Unit Citations. Following her military retirement, she continued her service as an Intake Specialist at the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey, California, where she retired after ten years of dedicated civilian service. She later relocated to Hopewell, Virginia, to be closer to her children and sisters.

Selina, you stood "The Watch."

You guided, you led, and you trained.

You were a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and friend.

Now you stand relieved-

Your service is complete.

Selina's earthly journey concluded on January 17, 2026, when the Lord called her home. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving children, Zilphy and Ronald Pearson; her aunt, Mary McMillan; her siblings, Mercel, Denise, James, Issac, Harold, Sandra, Alan and James Fox; her nieces and nephews, Chastity, Taharn, Shanae, Sandy, Caroline, Shanelle, Michael, Brandy, Christopher, Mykol, Mikaela, ChannaRay, Harold and Israel; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Paulette and Jackie Pearson, Rhonda Kirk, Anthony Whitaker, Lawrence Ault, Pamela Graves, Tish Meredith, Lourdes Pearson, Jonathan Pearson, Calvin Priest, and Larry Kirk; cherished family and friends including Gloria Bundick, the Womack family, LaChan "OJ" Byrd, Caroline Scott, Linda Johnson; her devoted friend Richard Caple (a brother from another mother); and a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11am, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Petersburg chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison Street, Petersburg.
