Serenity Rivera Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Starr Funeral Home, Inc. - Hemphill on Mar. 8, 2026.
Serenity Marie Rivera, affectionately known as Ren, passed away tragically on March 6, 2026, at the age of 13, following an accident. Born on June 5, 2012, in Jasper, Texas, to Christopher Cody Rivera and Meagan Martin, Ren spent most of her early life in Jasper before relocating to Hemphill, Texas.

A vibrant and active student at Hemphill Middle School, Ren was involved in various sports, including volleyball and track, and had just been selected as a Jr. High Cheerleader on the day of her accident. Her enthusiasm for life and sports was evident to all who knew her.

Ren is mourned by a loving family: her father, Cody Rivera and his wife, Shannon of Hemphill; her brothers, Lee Martin of Groves and Shane Vazquez of Hemphill; and her sister, Madison Vazquez, also of Hemphill. Her grandparents, Richard and Suzette Thurman of Jasper, and Lisa Martin of Groves, along with her great-grandparents, Darlene Martin of Brookeland, and Mary Anne Lambert of Jasper, will also cherish her memory. Additionally, Ren leaves behind her uncles, Rusty Thurman and his wife, Bailey, and Mason Thurman, as well as her beloved canine friends Tucker, Moose, Butter, and Teddy Bear.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Meagan Martin; grandfather, Randy Martin; her great-grandfather, Ira "Pawpaw Tater" Martin; her Uncle Charlie; and her Aunt Nannette.

Services for Ren are currently pending. The Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, Texas, is assisting the family during this difficult time. The community and all who knew Ren are deeply saddened by her loss and extend their heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
