Servando Garza Sr.

Servando Garza, Sr., 95, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 17, 2025. He was born on September 25, 1930 in Reynosa, Mexico to the late Arnulfo and Elisea Garza. He was married to Aurora Garza for 54 years before she passed in 2009. He was a member of and attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Servando worked as a dedicated gardener at Hafer Brothers Garden for over 30 years. He and his wife were migrant workers for many years before settling down in Indianapolis. Despite limited English and education, he worked hard and provided his children a better life. He loved to spend time taking care of his flowers, garden and yard and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting relatives in Texas.
Servando is survived by his daughter, Maria Short; sons, Servando Garza, Jr. (Paula) and David Garza; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister Herlinda Gamez.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aurora Garza: siblings, Hectrudis Cerna, Magdalena Escobar, Heraldo Garza; and son-in-law, Gary Short.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:30 am at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.
Servando will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
