Seth Douglas Hanton

Seth Douglas Hanton, 29, a young man of great passion, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 27, 2022. Seth was born May 13, 1993, in Lansing, the son of Dean Jeffrey and Terri Lynn-Marsh Hanton. Dean and Terri remember Seth as a happy child who filled every room with his sunny disposition. Seth graduated from Holt High School in 2011 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Olivet College in 2015.
While at Olivet, he met the love of his life, Alexis Rae Nichols. They were best friends, and they were head over heels for each other. Alexis just loved how kind he was and how he could light up any room he walked into. They got married on May 27, 2017, and took on the world. Seth and Alexis loved finding new breakfast places where he would enjoy Steak n Eggs or just about anything with steak in it. They would spend their mornings sitting and drinking coffee together. The two of them loved going to comedy shows and concerts. Seth and Alexis shared their love for Cedar Point and any other amusement parks. Seth and Alexis were surrounded by their three fur babies: Roscoe, Piper, and Quita. Seth loved his dogs, but he adored all dogs. He would say to Alexis "Lex, that's the cutest puppa I've ever seen!" She liked to point out to him that he would say that about every dog he came across.
Seth and Alexis recently welcomed their first child, Ellis Leigh Hanton. Ellis is Seth's mini-me. They share the same beautiful brown eyes and adorable smile. Seth would make up songs and just sing, sing, sing to his precious Ellis. Ellis would look up at his daddy in admiration while he would sing to him. He would tickle Ellis and make that baby laugh. Alexis would pop her head into Ellis's room and watch the two of them rock and snuggle in his rocking chair. Seth and Alexis really enjoyed going on walks while pulling Ellis in his wagon.
Seth worked at Wal-Mart for 4 years, most recently at the Lansing store as an asset protection manager. He was so dedicated and passionate about his work. Seth loved sports. You would find him on the golf course, in any weather. He also played softball. Seth was even the coach of the USC Trojans – in his fantasy football league. Seth loved playing games. As a child through his adult years, Seth enjoyed playing games with his parents, siblings, and friends. On his own, his game of choice was blackjack.
Seth is survived by his wife of 5 years, Alexis Hanton; their son, Ellis Hanton; his parents, Dean and Terri Hanton; siblings, Erin (Nathan Loding) Hanton, Sean (Heather) Hanton, Kyle (Emma) Hanton, and Devin Potter; niece, Lilly Loding; nephews, Garry Hanton, Callen Hanton, and Tavin Hanton; father-in-law, Raymond Nichols; sister-in-law, Hannah Nichols; grandmothers, Ann Hanton and Betty Marsh; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Douglas Hanton and Murray Marsh; and mother-in-law, Shannon Nichols.
Above all, Seth was the best person. He was passionate about everything he came across. If he didn't know how to do it, he wanted to learn. Seth was someone you could go to with any problem and he would be there with you to figure it out. Seth will be remembered for his kind nature, sense of humor, deep emotional intellect, and the love he had for his family.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Pray Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, just prior to the service.
