Shane William Koehnen

Shane William Koehnen, of Tenstrike, Minnesota, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 63.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30 from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Cease Funeral Home in Bemidji, with a time for sharing beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Born on May 5, 1962, Shane was the third of four sons to William (Bill) and Joyce Koehnen. He spent his early years in Watertown, MN, before the family moved north to Blackduck to pursue farming. Shane graduated from Blackduck Senior High School in 1980, where he was a proud member of the football team that competed in the state tournament. He also lettered in both football and wrestling.
Shane loved hunting, fishing, traveling, riding motorcycles, attending biker rallies, and following sports and NASCAR races.
After high school, Shane worked alongside his father in construction in Wyoming and the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, helping to build apartment complexes. His career in underground utility work took shape as he became a pipelayer for engineering firms specializing in municipal sewer and water systems. Shane rose to the position of foreman and earned a certification in bridge repair, contributing to inspection and construction projects throughout Minnesota.
While working in Nashville, Tennessee, Shane met Laura and the two shared a deep bond and adventurous spirit. They were married in Key West, Florida, and lived in St. Francis, MN until her death in 2006.
Shane continued his work in engineering consulting. In the several years before he retired, he ran North Woods Fish Houses, his business renting ice fishing houses on Red Lake out of Roger's Resort.
Shane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Laura Koehnen, and his parents, Bill and Joyce Koehnen. He is survived by his brothers, Mike (Becky) Koehnen, Scott (Deb) Koehnen, and Rick Koehnen; his nieces and nephews, Jenny (Paul) Lutter, Chris (Sherryl) Koehnen, Pat (Lesley) Koehnen, Matthew (Sophie Amelkin) Goinz, Adam (Jen) Goinz, April (Jon) Gesinger, and Shawn Koehnen; his 13 great-nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and many friends.
Memorials are preferred to Alcoholics Anonymous or any addiction recovery program.
