Shane M. Mooney

1929 - 2023

Shane Mooney of Manchester, VT passed away peacefully at her home in Manchester on May 28th, 2023. Born to William S. Fitzpatrick and Mary Gillson Fitzpatrick in Jackson Heights, NY in 1929. Shane graduated from William Smith College in 1952 and married David W. Mooney in 1953, also a graduate of Hobart College. After a career as a Naval wife at the New London, CT submarine base, the Mooneys settled in Westchester County and raised their four children in Purchase, NY and at Stratton Mt., VT. Shane was involved in her children's school and sports life and volunteered at Sacred Heart School in Greenwich, CT. She was a supportive member of the family business, the John O. Mooney Company, an engraving firm, managed by her husband, David.

Shane took great pleasure in her family and was the driving force in getting them to Fire Island in summers and to Stratton Mt., every winter weekend. Shane was a stunning woman and a model in several Westchester fashion shows. She was artistic, excelled at fashion design and loved skiing, golf at Stratton Mt Country Club, antiquing, and raising her beloved Jack Russells and Labradors. Vermont was an important part of Shane's life and she and Dave enjoyed their many Stratton friends and after retirement, their friendships and homes in Manchester. Shane was extremely proud of her children, who survive her, Kimet Hand (John) and David Mooney, Jr., (Nina), of Manchester, VT, Megan Gordon (Michael) of Manchester, MA, and Tarra Ferrone (Willie) of Dorset, VT. Shane is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Dave in 2015, and her brother, Bill Fitzpatrick of Austin, TX. Shane is also survived by nieces and nephews.

The family will celebrate Shane's long and lovely life privately and wish to thank the wonderful caregivers from At Home Seniors for their caring support for both Dave and Shane.

Shane was a longtime donor to St. Jude as she felt blessed to have four healthy children and wanted to support families who needed medical help for their children. Should friends desire, gifts to St. Jude.org would be welcome.
