Shane Sharp, age 51, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in his home surrounded by family after a fifteen-month battle with brain cancer.
Born on August 31, 1972, in Lexington, KY, Shane was raised on a tobacco farm until age twelve, when his family relocated to
Naples, Florida. Shane spent his high school years enjoying the beach and Florida sunshine. He graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Eckerd College and an M.S. in Urban Planning from the University of Arizona.
Shane married Jennifer Messmer in Sheldrake, NY on September 6, 2003, overlooking Cayuga Lake. They spent over 20 years making homes in
Charlotte, NC, Tega Cay, SC, Ovid, NY and
Greenville, SC. Shane was most proud of his children, Rian and Benjamin.
His favorite memories are of the adventures they took as a family exploring the Dominican, hiking Yellowstone Park, and spending time on the beaches of the South Carolina low country. Rian bonded with Shane over her love of writing and once Benjamin became obsessed with golf, the two were inseparable.
Shane was an avid golfer and worked in the golf industry for over 20 years. His passion for the game led him to found his own golf PR and marketing agency, Southbound4, in 2019. He was fortunate to travel and golf in several beautiful locations and make many close friends along the way.
He was a passionate sports fan and followed the Atlanta Braves, Kentucky basketball, and Florida State football. He loved his smoker, his pups, authentic Mexican food, and all things active. But above all, he loved taking care of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, daughter Rian, son Benjamin, sister Shannon (Shabab), uncle Don (Marina) and his father Steve Sharp. He is also survived by the in-laws who adopted him as their own; Karl and Patricia Messmer; his brothers in-law, Ted (Michele), Matt (Kelly) and Mark (Sherry); nine nieces and nephews and many extended family members. Shane was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Sharp.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 301 Piney Mountain Rd,
Greenville, SC 29609. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at The Venue at Cherokee Valley Golf Club, 450 Cherokee Valley Way, Travelers Rest, SC 29690. Golf attire is encouraged.
