Shannon Scott Shaffer, 56, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Shannon was a dedicated Christian who spent more than 30 years of his life preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He received an associates degree from Florida College (1987-1989), afterwards working as an evangelist with churches in West Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, and Indiana. Shannon also served as a shepherd for the Martinez church of Christ (Georgia) and most recently the Charlestown Road church of Christ. He made six different evangelistic trips to Russia.
Shannon also worked for UPS throughout his adult life. Wherever he was, Shannon always had a heart for one-on-one Bible studies. Just days before his death, when he interacted with a food server who was having a bad day, he encouraged her to realize that Sunday is the best day of the week and wrote her a personal note describing how she could start working her way through the Bible. Shannon was a servant of God, a dedicated husband of more than 34 years, a loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
He was born on November 21, 1968 in Salem, Indiana to the late Bob and Sally (Landreth) Shaffer. In addition to his parents, Shannon was preceded in death by his brothers, Robbie and Shane Shaffer.
Shannon is survived by his loving wife, Dana (Young) Shaffer; children, Emily Culver (Dylan), Sarah McReynolds (Tanner), Scott Shaffer, Seth Shaffer (Kaitlynn); grandchildren, Zion, Reina and Wynne; sister, Bobbie Jo Jackson; mother-in-law, Gay Young; sister-in-law, Rolanda Boggs (Greg); brothers-in-law, Kevin Young, Darrin Young (Stephanie); as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Charlestown Road Church of Christ (4601 Charlestown Road, New Albany) with Shannon's funeral service taking place at 6:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest privately at Brownsburg Cemetery in Brownsburg, Indiana.
