Sharan A. Stoddard, age 80, longtime resident of Lodi, died at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, March 27, 2026, as a result of failing health the past few years.
Sharan was born in Ithaca on November 11, 1945, a daughter of the late Orris and Wescena Smith. She was married to James “Jim” Stoddard in 1978, and they followed his Air Force career around the country until moving back to New York in 1990. She had been a CNA at the former Lakeside Nursing Home for many years prior to her retirement. Jim and Sharan were active members of the Lodi Fire Company, she served as firefighter, fire police and as an auxiliary member. They volunteered countless hours to the community and could be found at every event held by the company for decades, until her health prevented her from being there. She was a loving wife, mother and Grandma to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sharan is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, Jim of Grove Street in Lodi, her children; Kirk Smith of Oneonta, Garth “Skip” Cook of Ovid and Shawn (Steve) Cook-Allen of Ovid, her grandchildren; Anthony and Christopher Cook, Crystal Craig, Ashley Matteo and Bryan Cook and several great grandchildren; her sister, Dawn Smith of Trumansburg and brother, Terry Smith of Lodi. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenny and Robert F. “Butch” Smith.
The family will receive friends at Covert Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 on Friday, April 3, 2026. Prayers of committal will be held at 2:00 on Friday at NYS Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes in Romulus, officiated by Pastor Dave Spencer, chaplain of Lodi Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Sharan’s memory to the Lodi Fire Department, 8557 S Main St, Lodi, NY 14860.
