Sharon Kay Becker, 81 of
Elgin, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at her home. Sharon Kay was born to Lloyd and Aurelia (Heins) Schultz in Postville, Iowa on October 11, 1943. She joined four siblings, Arlene, Velder, Yvonne, and Judy; later came Richard. Sharon was baptized in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she went to Sunday School, Bible School, Confirmation, and in 1961 was married there. She worked at The Palm, 66 Gas Station, the high school and babysat for many families in the Postville area.
Following graduation she married a farm boy from Elgin, Louis Becker (better known by friends as Stub) on November 5, 1961. Stub worked for Bob Falb Implement after his graduation. They then took over his parent's farm and bought the Earl and Esther Kiple Farm, where they raised three hired men, Dave, Gary, and Dan. In the spring, Sharon worked the ground with whatever implement was current before the planter. In the fall she hauled corn, she also worked in the Elgin Canning Factory. Louis milked cows for 15 years while working for Falb Implement. They also raised hogs and sweet corn. They enjoyed fresh and preserved vegetables from the farm.
For enjoyment they played cards, danced and rode snowmobiles. They also loved watching the eleven grandchildren in sports and school activities. Those eleven grandchildren brought twenty great-grandchildren into the family.
Louis and Sharon were members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin, where Sharon taught Sunday School, Bible School and was on several committees including the United Methodist Women, was secretary for five years, Communion Committee where she went with pastor to serve Communion to shut-ins, she was also on the Caring Committee and Circle Rachael.
Sharon is survived by her sons, David (Kristi Hallberg) Becker of
Elgin, Iowa, Gary (Sandy) Becker of New Hartford, Iowa and Dan (Tammie) Becker of
Elgin, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Nate Becker, Niki (Kevin) Oakland, Tyler (Tessa) Becker, Tessa (Kyle) Kempt, Drew (Devin) Becker, Luke (Hannah) Becker, Brooke (Aaron) Krejci, Blaine (Josie) Becker, Elizabeth Becker, Brandon (Kirby) Becker and Brittney (Aaron) Taylor; three step- grandchildren, TJ (Mandy) Crandall, Tyler (Rebecca) Crandall and Jamee (Adam) Winters; twenty great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Brodie Becker, Kylie, Lexi, Jonathan and Aubrey Oakland, Gannon and Indie Becker, Madden Kempt, Daxton, Beau, and Huxlee Becker, Tate Grant, Harper and Lane Becker, Cal Krejci, Brice Becker, Benjamin Becker and Adrian and Nyla Taylor; seven step-great-grandchildren, Calin, Cole, Gracelynn Crandall, Araya Taylor, Cooper Crandall, Landon and Lee Winters; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Downey, Judy Larson and Mae Becker; and one very special friend, Poppy.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Louis (Stub) Becker; her parents, Lloyd and Aurelia; brothers, Velder and Richard; sisters, Arlene, Yvonne and Judy; and one daughter-in-law, Jackie Becker.
A Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home in
Elgin, Iowa. There will also be a one-hour visitation before services at the church on Monday.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, August 18, 2025 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in
Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Hyeunmee Kang as the officiant
Burial will follow in the Elgin Cemetery,
Elgin, Iowa.
