Sharyn Lyn Callaghan, 52, of Mendham, New Jersey, passed away at Morristown Medical Center on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Born in Summit, NJ, she grew up in Chatham and moved to Mendham in 2016. She was a graduate of Chatham High School, Chatham, NJ, and attended the County College of Morris.
She loved spending time with Vin and cherished her time with friends, whether at barn-dance parties, gathered around the firepit, or out for group dinners. She loved to see them smile, hear their laughter, and enjoyed listening to their stories. She put friendship above all else, always offering a helpful hand to anyone, often before they realized they needed it.
She adored her dogs but had a deep appreciation for all animals, especially cows, her favorite. On long road trips, she would often take time to admire the animals in the pastures. She loved visiting farms to pet and talk to the animals, always excited when they came to the fence to spend time with her. And when visiting zoos, she found herself captivated by the exotic creatures.
Sharyn spent a lot of time in Manasquan at her grandparents' home with her family. It is there that she became a true lover of the ocean. She and Vin frequently drove to the seaside, where the sounds, salty air, and fresh scents intoxicated her. She always would say she loved seafood, especially shellfish, because it tasted just like the ocean.
She delighted in attending local craft fairs and seasonal festivals, first with her mother and sister, and later with Vin. The sights and sounds always brought a smile to her face, the warmth of a hot pretzel comforted her, and interacting with the people was one of her favorite pastimes. She always took the time to speak with the artists and vendors, loving to hear about their passion for their craft.
Music was another of her passions. She had a special love for the '50s and '60s, with Elvis & Johnny Cash being her favorites, but appreciated all eras. Whether it was country, alternative '80s, classic or hard rock, her hand instinctively reached for the volume knob to turn it up. She would regularly bop along to the music in her car, humming whatever song had captured her that day.
She treasured vacations with her family, with cruises being her absolute favorite. Together, they explored the Caribbean multiple times, visiting destinations such as the British and U.S. Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Aruba, Cuba, the Bahamas and Bermuda. Though initially hesitant, she ultimately took great pleasure in cruises around England, Ireland, and Scotland, as well as cruises to Denmark, Finland, and Norway.
She was predeceased by her parents, Martin J. Callaghan, Jr. and Donna H. Callaghan. She is survived by her sister, Susan, of Tinton Falls; her lifelong partner, Vincent D'Annunzio, of Mendham; their beloved dog, Enzo; and their wonderful family and friends. She is also survived by her uncle Edwin Holmberg, two cousins, Eric and Brad, their wives Karyna and Debra, and their children.
Friends are invited to a memorial visitation honoring her life at the Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, located at 345 Main St., Chatham, on July 9, 2025, from 4-8pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the Chatham United Methodist Church, located at 460 Main St., Chatham, on July 10, 2025, at 11am.
