Sharon L. Carmen
CHIPPEWA - Sharon L. Carmen, 87, of Chippewa Falls, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022, at her home under the care of her family and HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice. Sharon was born on June 22, 1935 in Woodstock, IL to Manley Gilbert Adams, Sr. and Lola Smith. She was later adopted by Ford and Lucy Slusser of Wisconsin Rapids where she graduated from Lincoln High School.
At age 18, Sharon began a nursing career that spanned over 45 years. She served in Supervisory RN roles across various institutions, including the Wisconsin Northern Center, HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital, Rutledge Home, and St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center.
Sharon (and the many who knew her by "Sarge" can attest) was known for her strong-willed and compassionate spirit. She advocated for her patients and treated others with fairness, dignity, and respect.
Sharon is survived by her sister, Bethann Carey-Parrmann of Shepherd, TX; son, Keith Carmen (fiance Renee Thompson) of Chetek; two grandchildren: Keira Carmen and Evan Carmen of Eau Claire; two great-grandchildren: Olive Carmen and Effie Carmen; as well as five nieces and nephews across Eastern TX. Sharon was preceded in death by her spouse, Charles V. Carmen; her two sisters, Margaret (David) Harrell and Nancy Lewis, and one brother, Manley (Bud) Adams, Jr.
At Sharon's request, a private memorial will be held with her immediate family. To offer condolences online, please visit: chippewavalleycremation.com.

I know Sharon can't read this (or maybe she can, who knows), but I do know that we might get a harumph out of her about not leaving something behind. I'm not sure where else to put it. Aunt Sharon and I started exchanging letters and little trinkets shortly after I graduated high school. I traveled a fair bit, but she was busy watching over her neighborhood and town. Traveling wasn't something she could do, so I would send her postcards. When I was home I would write letters updating her on everything going on in Texas. She would sometimes send me newspaper clippings of letters she wrote to the editor for her local newspaper. She told me that her favorite things that I ever sent was a little bird figurine with dangling legs she would sit on shelves, and she would jokingly talk to it. She liked its acorn cap. The other was a crocheted blanket I made for her couch in her favorite color of peach and white cream stripes. I learned to crochet from her when I was visiting her at the same home in 1996, when I was 5yo. Sharon also had the best stories, and I wish that I had taken the time to record them when they were fresh in memory. She seriously lived a very full and interesting life. I am so happy she could meet my son before she passed on. Hopefully she is happily sitting on a cloud somewhere, listening to her police scanner.
