Sharon Darlene Foote passed away at her home, encircled by the love of her family, on March 4, 2026.
Sharon was an educator, fierce labor advocate, and dedicated community leader, and left behind a legacy of service that spanned over six decades. Known for her infectious laugh and her unwavering passion for making the world a better place, Sharon was a pillar of the Yuba-Sutter area.
Sharon was born on December 28, 1940 in
Fresno, CA to Victoria Mary Ann Bonacich and Richard Raymond Luke. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958, and went on to earn her bachelor's in education from California State University, Fresno in 1962.
Sharon's teaching career was defined by her 37 years of service to the Marysville Joint Unified School District, including over two decades at Kynoch Elementary. She was not only a great teacher but also a tireless champion for her peers. She was a leader in the Marysville Unified Teachers Association, serving as President and a key negotiator for the bargaining team, and was an active member of the California Teachers Association (CTA) and the National Education Association. She also served on the CTA's Feather River Service Center Council, including as Chair, and received their Outstanding Teacher Award, Advocate for the Association Award, and the CTA's WHO (We Honor Ours) Award.
Sharon's extensive volunteer resume demonstrates her strong commitment to her community. She served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Sutter County Community Memorial Museum Commission, Bridges to Housing, Alliance for Hispanic Advancement, and Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture. She was the Chair of the Sutter County Democratic Central Committee and a member of the Feather River Democratic Club. Sharon was also proud of her time serving as Chair of the Yuba City Parks and Recreation Commission, as well as her role as a representative to the Community Action Agency.
When she wasn't advocating for others, Sharon found peace in her garden, watching the birds and tending to her yard. She believed in protecting nature and was a lifelong environmentalist, supporting many nonprofit organizations. She was an incredible mother, had a deep love for her many pets, and consistently worked to make her community better.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Richard Foote, and her mother, Victoria. She is survived by her daughter, Madeleine Foote; step-daughters, Alexandra Foote and Julia Foote; cousins, Patricia and Mike Menzel; her cherished grandchildren, Julian and Louise Patterson; and her faithful granddog, Leo.
