SHARON SAFLEY Obituary

SHARON D. SAFLEY Sharon D. Safley, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Kansas City, Mo. Sharon was born to Gordon and Doris (Crossett) Doherty on July 27, 1944, in Lansing, Mich. Sharon received her bachelor's degree in library science from North Texas State University and master's degrees in library science and education from Central Missouri State University and University of Missouri-Kansas City. She helped establish the first library at her sons' elementary school, William Southern in Independence, and worked for 20 years as an elementary librarian in Raytown School District. Sharon enjoyed knitting, reading, and being involved in her church and her community. She started craft groups at two churches and volunteered with American Association of University Women, Junior Service League, and PTA. She also served as a den mother for her sons' Cub Scout dens. Sharon is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom Safley; three sons, Tom G. Safley (Abby Arthur), David Safley (Laura), and Stephen Safley (Natalie); seven grandchildren; and brother, C. Steven Doherty (Cindy). In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon's name to Christ United Methodist Church, https://www.icumc.org/, are appreciated.
