Sharon Kay Schneekloth, aged 80, passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2023, at her home in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Sharon was born on August 6th, 1942, in Vinton, Iowa, to Eber "Shorty" and Evelyn (Nelson) Phelps.
Sharon was a graduate of Urbana High School in Iowa. She married Gary Lee Schneekloth on Nov. 9th, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked as an executive secretary at Corn Sweeteners in Cedar Rapids, Breaker Confections (Div. of Willy Wonka) in Itasca, Illinois, and then as a credit manager for the May Company in Boulder, CO. She also worked at the YMCA in Lakewood, CO, before retiring from Rock Solid Hardwoods in Denver. Sharon was a 40-year resident of Wheat Ridge, CO.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Lee; children Gary Todd (Beth) Schneekloth and Chris (Kelley) Schneekloth; and grandson Caleb (Jessica) Schneekloth and their son Gabriel.
Sharon was one of twelve children and is preceded in death by brothers Charlie Phelps and David Phelps and sisters, Linda Stewart and Diana Phelps. She is survived by siblings Shirley Taulbee, Larry Phelps, Mary (Doug) Bell, Janet (Lauren) Lovell, Ron (Patty) Phelps, Lora (Okee) Walker, and Nora (Arnie) Vaupel.
Sharon had the privilege to live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Chicago, Illinois (Bloomingdale); Portland, Oregon (Clackamas); and Denver, CO (Wheat Ridge).
She loved traveling throughout the United States, especially Florida with family, Lake Havasu with friends, Hawaii, and Oregon. She was thrilled to visit Australia with her grandson and Mexico for her daughter's wedding.
She loved birthdays and holidays and insisted on birthday dinners to celebrate family members. There was always a box of chocolates and a card on the breakfast table each Valentine's morning. Thanksgiving and Christmas were a special time for family to gather at her beautifully decorated home and around her dinner table. She loved her home and always kept an attractive, warm and inviting place to live. Her home was, and still is, full of love and laughter.
She opened her home and hosted a bible study group for friends and family for several years. She helped sponsor a Cambodian family that quickly became a part of her extended family. Her open-door policy meant her home was often full of family visiting, friends traveling, or those in need of shelter for a few nights. Her generosity was always evident as she would give her old cars to those in need when she bought a new one.
She loved her family. A special light came on when she became a grandmother. She was especially joyous when she became a great grandmother in February of 2023.
At Sharon's request no memorial service will be held. Sharon's ashes are to be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. In lieu of owers the family invites any donations to be made to the following:
Trinity Lutheran Church and School – Cedar Rapids, I
A Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School – Lakewood, CO
Lutheran Hospice – Wheat Ridge, CO
