Sharon (Simula) Smith, age 87, of Marion, Indiana was at home when she went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 30, 2023 with family by her side. She was born on July 13, 1936 in Milford, MI, one of five children of Carl and Ethel (Glancy) Simula.
Sharon graduated from Baraga High School in 1954. She graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a Registered Nurse in a small county hospital in Baraga, MI "doing everything except surgery and delivering babies", and then as a Charge Nurse at Pontiac General Hospital in Pontiac, MI.
She married Joseph Perry Smith at Highland Church of the Nazarene in Highland, MI on October 20, 1962.
They moved to Marion in 1966. Sharon was a devoted wife and busy mother raising six children. Later, she worked as a supervisor at Quality Care Home Health Care in Marion. She worked with Joe at Smith Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning for more than 35 years.
She was an active member of South Marion Friends Church for many years and then attended Brookhaven Wesleyan Church.
She loved to watch birds, work in her garden, be outdoors and cook for her family. She loved to spend time with her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She enjoyed the annual family camping trips. She was always up for an adventure.
Sharon will be greatly missed by her husband of 61 years, Joe, and children: Jeffrey, Stephanie (Mark) Flandermeyer, Sharilyn (Randy) Woods, Sheila (Chris) Montgomery, Joshua (Melissa) Smith, Charles (Stacy) Smith; her siblings Tim (Arlene) Simula and Sue (Dave) Davison; sister-in-law Shirley (Arnell) Fast; her grandchildren: Jessalyn Smith, Kaitlyn (Jayson) Tuckey, Alyssa Flandermeyer, Jaclyn Flandermeyer, Kyle Flandermeyer, Ryan (Taylor) Woods, Lauren Woods, Ben Montgomery, Matthew Montgomery, Margaret Smith, Tyler Smith, Lane Smith, Cody Smith and Andrea Smith; great-granddaughter: Josephine Tuckey; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents Carl and Ethel Simula, in-laws Edgar and Leona Smith, brother Thomas (Ina) Simula, sister Janice Simula, daughter-in-law Karen Smith and grandson Jerrod Smith.
A funeral service celebrating Sharon's life will be held January 13, 2023 at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home College Park Chapel, 4601 S. Western Avenue, Marion, IN 46953 at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Joe Seaborn officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
