Sharon Sorenson Obituary

Sharon Lewis Sorenson

March 4, 1930 - November 14, 2023

Sharon Lewis Sorenson was born in Logan, Utah on March 4, 1930 and passed away in Phoenix, Arizona from her lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease on November 14, 2023 peacefully in her sleep.

She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a descendant of Mormon Pioneers, and her great-grandfather, William H. Lewis, settled in Cache County, Utah and establised the town of Lewiston. Her grandparents and father's family all lived in Lewiston and are buried at Lewiston cemetery, where she continued to visit their graves her entire life.

Sharon was raised on a farm in Lewiston until her parents, Ted and Delta Lewis, moved to a cattle ranch in Whitehall, Montana with her five siblings -- Dow (Judy), Patti (Dominick), Vicky (Rex), Linda (Ron), and Jeff (Marla). Sharon was 17 when she married Dennis L. Karren in the Idaho Falls Temple. Sharon and Dennis made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho where she gave birth to four of her sons -- Dennis Ted, Rodney Lowell, Bradley Lewis, and Todd Lewis Karren. The couple moved to Jasper, Indiana and then

to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where Sharon gave birth to her fifth son, Winston Lewis Karren in March 1969.

Sharon and Dennis divorced in April 1973, and Sharon moved her sons back to Utah to live near her mother, Delta, and brother, Jeff, who was a student at Brigham Young University. Sharon then met Jerry Elmo Sorenson, who owned a family business with his father and brother in Midvale, Utah. Sharon and Jerry were married August 4, 1974 in Salt Lake City. Jerry added two more sons, Jerry Jr. and Kelly to the marriage for a total of seven boys.

Sharon worked for a beauty supply company in Salt Lake City and was their top salesperson for many years, winning numerous awards and trips. Sharon had many friends and was known as a vibrant, fun-loving, beauty of a woman. She was an avid skier, golfer, and tennis player and enjoyed bicycling with her husband. Sharon loved being surrounded by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lived nearby her home in Cottonwood Heights.

In January 2010 we decided Sharon was no longer capable of living alone and moved her to an assisted living facility in Phoenix, Arizona and later to a registered group care home, Home Care Choice, run by its caregiver, Rowena Dinerman. Sharon lived in Rowena's care while her disabling disease took its toll.

Jerry E. Sorenson passed away August 8, 2007 but left a wonderful legacy with Sharon and family. Sharon's son, Rodney L. (Irene) Karren, passed away in November 2020. Sharon also lost her two

brothers, Dow in April 2010 and Jeff in November 2021. Sharon's surviving sisters are Patti Crisafi, Vicky Lewis, and Linda (Ron) Burgener. Sharon is also survived by sons D. Ted (Teresa) Karren, Bradley L. (Anita) Karren, Todd L. (Nicole) Karren, Winston L. Karren as well as two step-sons Jerry Sorenson, Jr. and Kelly Sorenson. She is survived by 12 grandchildren -- Cheryl (Brandon), Vincent (Courtney), Teresa (Brady), Katie (Todd), Kristen, Amelia (Joe), Nicholas, Brock (Chelsea), Colby (Rachel), Kaitlyn, Weston, Josie; and 8 great-grandchildren -- Drayson, London, Riley, Rosalyn, Nixon, Sloan, Tess, Baby Dunavan.

Sharon was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by friends and family. She was always the "backbone" of our family. She is a tremendous example to her children and their families. She devoted her life to raising a family with great love and strength.

Sharon's viewing will be held November 30, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at Cannon Mortuary, 2460 East Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A pre-service viewing will be held 10:00 a.m. December 1, 2023 at the LDS Brighton 4th Ward, 2895 East Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, Utah with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel.
