Sharon Hayes Williams

So many of us had the privilege to know and work with Sharon but are unable to attend.
She was the heart of the SICU and 5ICU. She kept things running in the most difficult situations. All at once she could call a code, greet visitors, get the emergent orders enacted and still maintain a smile and grace.
She was the first face people saw when they entered the unit on what was probably the worst day of their lives. She was friendly, compassionate and patient with the visitors helping them navigate through the hospital system and seeing their loved one. She reached out to staff when they were having a rough time too. She remembered our children's names when inquiring about them and following up on our life's events. We shared our feelings of sadness, frustration, joy and laughter with her. Sharon's laugh was infectious. We too appreciated her stories, often with humor, about her life and family and felt we knew them although we hadn't met them.
We were all saddened and felt a great loss to see her retire but had the joy of celebrating with her this accomplishment after so many years of service to UCSD.
The world is suffering a great loss of Sharon's presence now but we know heaven is having a great celebration of welcome for her.
