Sharon Lee Womboldt, our much loved mother, died on Monday, January 15th, 2024. She had 84 well lived years in this life.
A memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Perry Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Sharon was known for being spirited, spunky, feisty, sassy and a bit of a tomboy as a kid. She was a child in World War II while her father and many uncles served in the military, sparking a lifelong admiration, respect and support for our service members, veterans and their families.
Sharon was a good and dutiful student, graduating from Lansing Eastern High School. She then took her spirited and spunky self to Lansing Community College, where she was one of the first 25 females admitted to the college, which at the time was an all-male school. She earned a degree in business and was subsequently employed with Michigan Bell where she worked until she started a family of her own.
Sharon was a stay-at-home mom who referred to herself as a domestic engineer. She returned to the workforce 11 years later with the State of Michigan in the Office of Vital Records where she quickly promoted to an Administrative Assistant. Upon her retirement at 28 years of service, her family was astonished to learn she had a dual role in her career and was involved in fraud services and investigations. She was recognized for this critical and confidential work by the U.S. Marshal's Department of Justice, the El Paso Intel Center with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Witness Security Program. She described this as work that she was good at and found fulfilling.
Sharon was a life long learner; she always wanted to learn and try new things. She continued earning college credits over the next few decades in the areas of business, finance and real estate. Among other things, she was an avid skier, quilt maker and amateur photographer. She loved music and crafting. She believed in education and mentoring, and enjoyed teaching her kids to learn new things alongside her.
Sharon loved deeply and lived for her 3 children. She emphasized to us the great importance of family. Family meant everything to her, most of all when it came to her three most loved grandchildren. As Alzheimer's disease began to take hold in her later years, the lesson of the importance of family became even more pivotal as her family loved and cared for her in a way equal to the way in which she loved and cared for all of us. Her Family.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Donna (Oakes) Womboldt and sister Judy Womboldt. She is survived by her children Cynthia (Jeff Fleming) Borgman, Jennifer (Troy Potter) Borgman, and David 'Bomber' (Tammie Broker) Borgman; her 3 grandchildren Zack, Aryn and Leah Borgman; her brother David (Elaine) Womboldt and sister Deborah Womboldt-Hall. She also has an aunt, many nieces and nephews and so so many cousins.
Donations can be made to the Capital Area Human Society in lieu of flowers as Sharon was also a lover of animals and had many beloved pets throughout her life.
