Shauna Scoffield Hansen

Shauna Scoffield Hansen, 83, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021, just two weeks after her sweetheart, Mark, passed.

Mom was born on July 26, 1938, at the Old Dee Hospital in Ogden to Samuel Barsby Scoffield and Ethel Sarah Adams Scoffield.  Mom lived in Kaysville till the family moved to the Scoffield family farm in West Layton. Her years on the farm were special to her. She loved helping her dad garden, grow prize roses, and ride her horse, Tony, bareback on the farm to find her daddy. After years on the farm, the family moved back to Kaysville.

Mom had a passion and love for reading. She loved the classics and historical fiction and was an avid reader throughout her life and passed that love onto her children.

During junior high she was involved in the school choir, played basketball and softball. Mom graduated from Davis High in 1956. She was very involved in high school; being in the pep club, an officer in the Future Homemakers of America Club and was one of three valedictorians her senior year.

She continued her education at Utah State where she met and married Ronald Dagon. While at Utah State mom had her first child, Kurt, who was the joy of her, and her parent’s lives. Ron and Shauna moved back east for a time and then later divorced.

Mom moved back to Utah and started working at Hill Air Force Base.  There she met the handsome man in the yellow button-down shirt and khaki pants named Mark Hansen.  They dated for four years and on April 9, 1966, were married in Las Vegas. Dad adopted Kurt and they were blessed with three more children, Julianne, Sarah, and Samuel.  They were sealed later as a family in the Ogden temple.

Mom had the opportunity to stay at home for many years and raise her children. Mom made sure her children had opportunities to be involved in many activities; primary, scouts, 4H, dance, piano, soccer, and many trips to the library.

Mom went back to work with dad at their business, Marshon, in the early 80s. In 1984, mom went to work at Hill Air Force Base again.  She worked there as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 2001. She was awarded many recognitions and honorary awards for her outstanding service.

In retirement, mom loved to spend time with her grandkids.  She volunteered at Antelope Elementary, Bluff Ridge Elementary, Heritage Elementary, and in her own home taking care of the grandkids. She continued to instill the love of reading in her grandkids, spending hours reading books to them. She spent time fishing with dad and attending car shows with him showcasing their 40 Ford Deluxe Coupe-“Old Betty.” She loved her family dearly and would worry about them always and check on them frequently.

Mom always had a mind like a steel cage.  She could remember many things and had a special knack for knowing family history. She could tell you many things about all the relatives on both sides of the family and what used to be where in Layton. Her vocabulary and knowledge of scientific plant terms was amazing.

Mom had a way of being interested in people.  She was very good at talking to people and becoming interested in their lives. She made new friends everywhere she went.

Mom’s life was one of service. Not only did she serve her children, but she was also active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in the Stake Primary Presidency and ward primary. She and dad also spent a lot of time caring for her mom, Ethel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Ethel, her husband, Mark, a sister-in-law, Rowlene, a brother-in-law, Jerome, a sister-in-law, Connie, father-in-law, Rowland, and mother-in-law, Mabel. She is survived by her children, Kurt (Vicky), Julianne (Chris), Sarah (Chris), Sam (Liz), 21 grandchildren and grandchildren in laws, 15 great grandchildren, her brother Gary (Kay), her sister, Susan (David), and brothers-in-law, John (Verla) and Jim (Christine).

The family would like to thank with grateful hearts Amanda, Tyson, Jessica, Stephanie, Kortney, and Mia from Tender Care Hospice for being so kind and caring with Mom. We would like to thank Ethan Bunker for his help and care of mom and dad over the years and being a resource for help. We would also like to thank the kind and dedicated staff at Sunridge Assisted Living.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 8, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
