On June 21, 1954, a baby girl was born in Bay City, Texas, to Eddie Griggs, Sr. and Rosalie Bell Griggs, whom they named Shearly Fernitto Griggs. She was the fourteenth child of seventeen born to this union. She was affectionately called "Sharon" by all who knew and loved her. She attended public schools in Van Vleck ISD graduating with Class of 1973.
Shearly leaves to mourn her most precious memories to her siblings, Ida Moore of Houston, Viola Grice of Cedar Lane, Catherine McPherson (Eric) of Richmond, Eddie Griggs (Diane) of Lake Jackson, Elroy Griggs (Sharon) of Brazoria, Lottie Casey of Bay City, Lewis Griggs (Vivian) of Houston, Benjamin Griggs of Houston, Ola Times of Brazoria, and Carolyn Griggs of Cedar Lane; two god-children, Vonchass Griggs and Darian Griggs; two sisters-in-law, Bettie Smith of Bay City and Barbara Hall of Houston; and an enormous family which includes nieces and nephews which she always referred to as being her children, cousins, other relatives and friends, and her Texas Southern University Family.
