Sheila Ann Runkis, 67, passed away on November 21, 2025, in her hometown of Clinton, Mississippi.

Born in Bridgeport, CT, Sheila grew up in Stratford and made homes in Providence, RI; San Anselmo, CA; Marysville, WA; Taos, NM; and Newtown, CT.

A beloved daughter and sister, Sheila graduated from Bunnell High School in 1976 and later earned her degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University. She married Walter Runkis, with whom she shared many years of companionship, laughter, and love.

Sheila was known for her kindness, generosity, and enormous heart-gifts she extended not only to the people in her life but to every one of God's creatures. There wasn't a cat, bird, frog, or chipmunk she didn't adore!

A talented and intuitive artist, Sheila worked with a bold sense of color and creativity. She was also an exceptional cook and gardener who delighted in beauty, nourishment, and growth. Whether attending a live concert or dancing with friends, Sheila embraced music and joy wholeheartedly.

The oldest of four siblings, Sheila was a loving sister, a tireless cheerleader, and someone who filled the room with laughter. Her spirit was vibrant, generous, and unforgettable.

Sheila is survived by her sisters, Stephanie Macejko and Sandra Starr; her brother-in-law, Martin Starr; her nephew, Alex Starr; her sister-in-law, Kristine Macejko; and her nephew, Stephen Macejko. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Runkis, and her brother, Stephen Macejko Jr.

A gathering to honor both Sheila and her mother, Shirley, will be held on Friday, November 28, from 1–3 p.m., with a service at 3 p.m., at Scanlan's in Pompton Plains, NJ. Additional funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Society.
