Shelbie Mulling Obituary

Shelbie Jean Mulling Shelbie Jean (Morrison) Mulling, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024 at her home in Maryville, Tennessee.

She was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on June 12, 1936 to the late Edward and Della Swift Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Edward Mulling. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Harriet Ferrell, Angie Eppes, Sadie Wall, Betty Bennett, Laura McElfresh, Irene Guffey, Marie Fielder and Dorothy Morrison.

She is survived by son Tom Mulling and his wife, Cheri and daughter Tammy Harrington and her husband, Joe. She is also survived by "the most wonderful grandchildren a grandma could ever have", Trey Mulling (and wife Katlin), Tanner Mulling, Connor Harrington, Abigail Harrington and Hayden Jane Harrington; great grand-children Luke and Piper Mulling. She is also survived by her brother, Billy Morrison and sister-in-law and lifelong best friend Gloria Ballenger.

Shelbie met her husband, Tom, in 1958 while he was serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY. Shortly after they married, Tom and Shelbie began a life in the Fort Myers, Florida area. Shelbie was a homemaker for many years before beginning her long career in banking operations. She was retired from Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Shelbie enjoyed her time in Florida, especially living on the quiet and peaceful acreage she and Tom cultivated into a beautiful homeplace. In 2012, she and Tom moved to Maryville, TN to be closer to her daughter, Tammy, Tom passed away soon thereafter.

Shelbie was an avid and voracious reader and experienced great happiness from the thousands of books she read in her lifetime. She was also an enthusiastic and knowledgeable sports fan and loved cheering for the Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida Gators.

Shelbie's pride and joy was her family. She was fiercely proud of each of them and delighted in taking care of them, baking favorite desserts, and attending their sporting events and activities throughout her lifetime. She maintained many lifelong friendships and made new friends during her time in Maryville. At the end of her life, she was granted the unique privilege of reflection and she expressed happiness, optimism, fulfillment, and honor for her 88 years.

Shelbie was a sweet, loving and beautiful person. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a strong woman of faith and passed with peace and gratitude for her earthly life.

In accordance with her wishes, arrangements and services are private. Memorial donations may be made to Blount County Friends of the Library, 508 N. Cusick St., Maryville, TN 37804.
