Our mama, Ms. Shelby Jean Chavis, 87 of 45 Britten Road, Pembroke, NC was born December 26, 1938, and departed this life on January 26, 2026. She is preceded in death by her husband Mr. James "Chick" Chavis, her daughter Diane "Dicie" Chavis, her parents Lawrence and Emmie Maynor, her brothers, John Pat Maynor, Clayton Maynor, Jessie Maynor, Roy Maynor, Alford Maynor, Jetter "Doodle" Maynor, Willie Sanford Locklear, and Earl Locklear; her sisters Genora Locklear, Annie Cummings, Vondola "Dinah" Locklear, Regina "Susie" Locklear, and her son in law Terry Brayboy, and special friend Glen Burnette.

Mama was a hardworking, loving, Christian woman that devoted her life to her home and her family. She loved to sing in the church and at home, and she loved to cook, clean, and tend to her home. Her family was one of her other greatest joys along with helping others while serving Jesus was her first priority. Mama retired from Converse Inc. after almost 20 years of employment.

Mama leaves to cherish her memories her daughters Darlene Chavis and Deneen Brayboy, her four grandchildren Alan Drake Hunt, Kinston Brayboy (Kaitlyn), Jacob Brayboy, and Tangie Brayboy, six great-grandchildren: Landon, Jackson, Allie, Easton, and Harper; her sister Ms. Christine Brayboy, and a bonus daughter Ms. Heather Lowery.

Mama has a lot of special nieces and special nephews and a multitude of friends whom she loved dearly.
