Shelby Jean Morrison

Shelby J. Morrison, 79, of Ankeny and formerly of Lake Ponderosa, died May 26, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A private family graveside service and burial will be held Saturday morning, June 4th, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Shelby J. Morrison Memorial Fund. Shelby was born November 14, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Tim and Leona Maggie Giles Staats. She was raised in Redding, Iowa and later moved to Fresno, California where she graduated from Central Union High School there. Following high school, she returned to Iowa and lived in Mt. Ayr for several years. On June 15, 1960, she was united in marriage with John Gall, in Johnston. The couple lived in the Des Moines area and she was employed for 20 years at Safeway Grocery Store in the Highland Park area. She was later married to Junior W. Morrison, January 18, 1983, in Las Vegas and the couple lived in Ankeny prior to moving to Lake Ponderosa in 1989. She was employed part-time at the Super Value in Montezuma. She later returned to Ankeny to make her home. Shelby was a sports enthusiast! She was an avid fan of every kind of racing, the Boston Celtics and Iowa State Cyclones. Survivors include her son, John (Penny) Gall of Ankeny; two grandchildren, Kristin and Karmen Gall, one great-grandchild, Lex Gall, all of Ankeny; two sisters, Joyce (Gilbert) Wong of Kerman, California and Peggy (George) Hawley of Fresno; and one brother, Tim (Becky) Staats of Aledo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, John in 1999 and Junior in 2002; and one sister, Becky Dowden.
