Sheldon Jerome Cook, age 64, of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Born on February 12, 1961, in Joliet, Illinois, Sheldon was the son of the late James Cook and Nancy (Stewart) Melton. He grew up with a big heart, a kind spirit, and a deep love for the people around him, qualities he carried throughout his entire life.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Darlene Baumgardner; his mother-in-law, Ruth Shurte; and his sister-in-law, Judith Brown.
Those who will forever hold Sheldon in their hearts include his loving wife, Julia, whom he cherished and married on October 27, 2001; his children, Jesse (Crystal) Hammaker, Joleen (David) Harsh, and Savanna (Brian Bane) Cook; and the grandchildren who meant everything to him-Camden, Chloe, and Coleson Hammaker, Sebastyn, Malikye, and Juniper Hill, and Scarlett and Norah Harsh. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Richard Shurte; his siblings, Debbie (Scott) Spence, Dawn (Johnny Cruz) Willson, and Donna Lanham; his niece, Amy (Jack) Manix Silverberg; and his brother-in-law, Mike Brown; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sheldon spent many dedicated years working at Hittle's in Greenville, where he formed lasting friendships. But above all, Sheldon's world revolved around his family. His greatest joy came from being a husband, a father, and especially a grandpa. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he celebrated every moment he had with them.
He had a love for animals, a passion for motorcycles, and enjoyed watching football, especially the Cleveland Browns. To know Sheldon was to know warmth, humor, and a heart that loved deeply and without hesitation.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Tribute Funeral Homes in Greenville, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM. In honor of Sheldon, please wear your favorite football gear.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County Humane Society, 7053 SR-49, Greenville, OH 45331.
