I first met Sheldon when we were students at Colorado College. We were in an English class, and the day after the Kent State shootings, before class started, Sheldon got up before the class, said he didn't feel he could go on as if nothing had happened, and asked if anyone would join him in walking out of class. I was the only one who joined him. We were fast friends from that day forward. When I returned to Colorado Springs from law school, I worked at what was then Pikes Peak Legal Services as a VISTA volunteer, making $200 a month. Sheldon and Mary Ellen, in an act of extreme kindness which I will never forget, let me stay with them rent free. That's the kind of person Sheldon was. When my financial situation improved, they bought a house down the street from the one we had shared, which I then rented from them. When I married my wife, Laura, Sheldon was the groomsman at our wedding. He helped us move into the house which we still occupy. It is my deepest regret that I lost touch with him and with Mary Ellen.

I gave myself a 60th BD party and invited lots of people. While talking with Sheldon, I noticed his nametag. Under his name he had written, "Kay's first husband". It was a wonderful laugh and soo.. Sheldon. He and his humor will be greatly missed.
