ABILENE- Sheldon Allan Weinstein, died on February 4,2022. He was born on August 4, 1933, in Winthrop, Massacuchests, the son of Jack and Rilla (Edwards) Weinstein.
Sheldon Graduated from Revere High School in June of 1951. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Air Force on April 9, 1953. He worked his way up the ranks and retired as a Master Sergeant in October of 1973. During his time abroad is where he met his loving wife of almost 65 years. Sheldon and Irma wed in Kaufburen Germany on June 1, 1957.
After his retirement from the USAF, Sheldon worked passionately as a mail carrier and retired after 17 years of service in 1991. The two built a wonderful life together, having two children, Glenn and Amy.
The pair were very active in their community and spent years volunteering for the Meals on Wheels of Abilene as well as in the gift shop of Abilene Regional Medical Center. They also enjoyed playing Bingo at the VFW in Abilene and it was very rare that they missed a session.
Sheldon was a gentle giant. He loved his family and would do anything to help, always a phone call away if anyone needed anything.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra and loving family dog, Lexus.
He is survived by Sheldon's wife Irma Weinstein, their children Glenn Weinstein and Amy Acosta both of Abilene, grandchildren Scott Weinstein and Lainey Acosta and great-grandson Cutter Lee as well as many extended family members and loving friends.
A graveside service, with honors, will take place on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 2:00pm in the committal shelter at the Texas State Veteran's Cemetery, Abilene.
Visitation for friends and family to gather to remember Sheldon will take place at Fry-Smith Funeral Home, Tuscola from 5-7 pm on Monday, February 21.
Those who wish to remember Sheldon in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Meals on Wheels of Abilene or the Abilene Humane Society.
