My thoughts and prayers go out to Sheldon's family. I met Sheldon through Ron Lindell and although I only saw him a few times I got the feeling he was a real genuine person. He was a big fan of Paul Westerberg's music. I remember him saying that he would sing 'Skyway' for his daughter. I thought that was really sweet.

I found out about Sheldon's tragic death just last night. My sincerest condolences to the Weiss family. My name is Scott DeVoe and was one of Sheldon's roomates in Eau Claire where we both attended Tech School. I remember when I first received the list of the other three fellows I would be rooming with, one name stuck out. That name was Sheldon D. Weiss III. Wow, I thought this guy is probably a stuck up snob that I would never get along with. Well as you all know that could not have been farther from the truth. We got along from the first day and had so many things in common. The Packers, Rock music, the good stuff of course, Ronald Reagan, and so much more including the Bob Newhart show which we were addicted to. Sheldon was always so happy and jovial you could not help but to like this guy with the great sense of humor and the laugh that was a combination of a snicker, a grimmace, and a guffaw. We kept in touch for a few years after school and would get together in E.C. for golf outings once a year but sadly that ended too. There are so many stories that I could tell about Sheldon but there just isn't enough room. I can relate one quick one to you. Every weekend the guys in the apartment downstairs would all go home. Sheldon and I were usually staying in E.C. for the weekend and we discovered that our Tech ID when slid up along their door would pop it open. They had a much better Stereo than we did so as soon as they left we would break into their apartment bring their stereo up to our room and use it for the weekend. Before they would return Sunday evening we would return the stereo and put all of our garbage bags into their room. Sure enough Monday morning they would be unknowingly hauling our garbage across the parking lot and to the dumpster as we watched and Sheldon rolled with laughter. Another story, Sheldon was in Wood Technics class and decided to defrost our refrigerator with his wonder bar from class and ended up tearing all the freon lines open in the freezer. Luckily it was winter and we could keep all of our Buckhorn,(cheap beer),on the fire escape outside until it warmed up and we were forced to hire someone to fix our Frig. So many more great memories. He will be greatly missed! Sheldon, I know your happy and that your playing Air Guitar with all the greatest rockers that have passed. Love You Scott

To Sheldon's Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I got to know Sheldon through a friend and co-worker Ron Lindell. We went to see Martin Zellar at O'Garas in the Cities a few years back. I could tell instantly that Sheldon was a great guy and a true friend by the way Ron and him laughed almost the entire time recalling memories.

In 2Corithians 5:8 it says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"

I know God's smile just got bigger in Sheldon's presence

To the Weiss family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sheldon will be missed by everyone he came into contact with. I met Sheldon more than 20 years ago through Ron Lindell. We went to the Badger/UNLV football game in Vegas.
Although Sheldon may have considered me as an acquaintance, as we only saw each other periodically, I considered him a real friend. That was the influence
Sheldon had on people. He will be missed by all.God Bless his family.

Dear Weiss Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you as you mourn the loss of Sheldon. I had the pleasure of working with him for the past two years and will miss him. He was such a pleasure to work with. I enjoyed talking with him about his hiking trips, his house and family. May God bless and comfort you during this time.

I feel for your loss-Sheldon was a great friend to me. My life is better for having known Sheldon. Everyone loved Sheldon...he had only friends. Madison is his pride and Joy . He talked about her each and every time that we chatted.

Here's how I'll remember Sheldon...one day, back in about 1983, Sheldon and I were driving down Clairemont Ave in Eau Claire. I remember somehow he’d found and was driving a car painted his favorite color (orange). We were on our way to McDonalds and as we were doing so I was telling him this story that took place when I was in 8th grade. I won’t share that story at this time but as we were driving Sheldon started laughing harder and harder. By the time we pulled up to the drive-thru at McDonalds we were both laughing so hard we were crying. He rolled down the window of his car to give the girl our orders but all he could do was laugh. Sheldon and I sat there laughing hysterically as she kept asking for the order. Cars 10 deep piled up behind us. No words would come out of Sheldon’s mouth. This poor girl must have waited at least 5 minutes for Sheldon to spit out that order. He at one time was able to stop laughing just long enough to get out about 3 words before finally bursting into laughter again. We never ate at McDonalds that day. Once we realized that it was pointless to be in that drive thru line he stopped laughing just long enough to say “thank you” and we drove away…laughing.

I miss him

The Weiss Family: I am very sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with Sheldon when he was working the day shift. He was a very funny guy and loved to joke around. He always had a smile on his face and was just fun to be with. He and I had talked about going to the John Lennon Tribute last fall and couldn't make it because we had to work. Bummer!! I and the rest of the Star Tribune Employees will miss him very much. May God be with you all.

This is a sad time for the Weiss family and all the people that knew Dean.I am sure you all know that this goes way back, by calling him Dean. My fondest memory of him is as a very young boy, I took him to his very first Packer game at the old Met. They lost to the Vikings in a game that they out played the vikes, but still lost. He was crushed ,as was his father. So we all know how he got his passion for badger sports.Your whole family was great to the Jahnke family at the lake.We will have ALL of you in our prayers.

To the Weiss family-

Our prayers are with you as we say goodbye to Sheldon. We will miss him more than words can express. Every Wisconsin Badgers sporting event in the future will spark memories of our times with Sheldon. We will miss his wry sense of humor and his attemps at a good gumbo. Time will eventually ease our pain but there will always be a hole in our life where Sheldon once was.
The one thing Sheldon loved more than the Badgers was his beautiful daughter Madison. We hope her life is filled with wonderful memories of her Dad.

God Bless al of you.
