Shelley L. Wampfler-Suydam

Shelley L. Wampfler-Suydam, 58, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Wynn Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rome on December 22, 1966,she was a daughter of the late David and Milicent (Evanciew) Wampfler. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and was married to Jerry Suydam.

For 36 years, Shelley owned and operated La Belle Vie Salon alongside her dear business partner and friend, Diane Smith. Together, they built a warm and welcoming space where clients became like family.

Shelley had a true passion for creativity-she loved to cook, bake, and decorate, especially during the holidays when her home sparkled with festive touches. She found joy in tending to her beautiful garden, nurturing vibrant flowers that reflected her colorful spirit. A true DIYer at heart, Shelley could transform any project with her eye for detail and love of craftmanship.

She cherished trips to New York City and Maine, where she drew inspiration, laughter, and lasting memories.

Shelley is survived by her husband, Jerry; two special "sisters" and caregivers, Diane (David) Smith and Shannon Fox; her beloved giant schnauzer, Sully; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; special friend, Charles Currie; and many special friends who became her family.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 200 N. James St., Rome NY 13440. There are no calling hours.
