Shelly was an amazing, energetic, and enthusiastic woman, and the mother of my childhood friend, Terri. The last time I saw Shelly was in 2023 when she invited me to speak in Louisville with Kentucky to the World. I am grateful to have known her and spent time with her during my childhood. She was always kind to me and my family. All my love to Terri and the Zegart family.

Shellly was an amazing lady. I shared her love of quilts and the further development of the art form.

I met Shelly when she was working with others from around the country to create The Quilt Index, a searchable database for scholars, quilters and educators now featuring over 50,000 quilts from documentation projects, museums, libraries, and private collections. What I didn't realize at the time, was that she wanted me to take her seat on the board for the Alliance for American Quilts (now the Quilt Alliance). She kind of threw me into the water and hoped I could swim, which I did. I know if I ever needed something to be done ASAP, Shelly would be the person I would go to first. Condolences to the family, for this loss as well as losing Kenny so recently. Kathie Johnson

Shelly helped me with some family quilts in the 1980´s and her graciousness was always a joy. We would see each other at various events through the years and had the most fun last year when our outfits and their color was so similar we were noticed by all. We loved it. A great loss for all! The art, antiques and quilt communities have lost a giant in the field. I am very sad to lose a very good friend! Helaine Fendelman
