Our hearts are broken and the world will never be the same with the loss one of greatest cowboys, Sherman Facer. Our Cowboy passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018, at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, UT. Sherman lived a life of hard work, integrity, and kindness. His life was filled with laughter, happiness, family, and adventure. He will be remembered by those around him as a loving and always giving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and cherished friend; those who knew Sherm loved his bright blue eyes and his contagious smile which would brighten anyone’s day.

Our cowboy was born in Malad, Idaho, on April 23, 1930, to Lucy L. Williams and Willard D. Facer. He had seven siblings: Ila, Elmo, Neal, Rula, Jack, Carol, and Alma.

Sherman was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the U.S. Air Force from January 19, 1948 to May 31, 1968. He was stationed in Massachusetts, Texas, Maine, Utah, Alaska, Iceland, England, and Italy. He was very proud of his military service and his country. He retired as a TSGT Sergeant of the USAF.

Attracted by her famous oatmeal cookies, Sherm married Nancene Adams from Layton, UT, on Nov 2, 1971. During 36 years of marriage they established and thoroughly enjoyed their Layton S&N Ranch, raising cattle, riding horses, hunting, fishing, and traveling with their motorhome with the famous tire cover: “Too Old to Work, Too Young to Die, So Took the Road, Ma’ and I!”

Sherman was loved dearly by his 5 children: Karen (Peter) Boggiano, Robert Neal Facer, Caron Facer, Anita Zimmerman, David (Melissa) Facer and Peggy Facer; his 8 grandchildren: Alexia Anderson, Tugi Gori, Athena Facer-Fresques, Robby Facer, Kathryn Colcott, Jeannine Townsend, Sarah Boggiano, Ray Boggiano; and his 8 great-grandchildren: Rainey, Paiyteon, Anthony, Lauryn, Jaxon Sherman, Abbey, Macy, and Rosa.

Sherm was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as the Elders Quorum President and a faithful home teacher. He was greatly loved by members of his ward, his neighbors, and everyone he met.

Sherm loved going fishing and hunting, traveling, watching his granddaughter play basketball and softball, and enjoying his great-granddaughter’s H4 and posy, along with watching his great-grandson play baseball and football. This cowboy loved all sports and watching all the kiddos play.  He spent many hours in the field tending to his ranch. Whether it was attending to a cow during calving season or baling and putting up hay. He loved helping the neighbors with their snow covered driveways, Sherm always had something to do including his many responsibilities as the Layton water Master. Everything he gave to us took all he had, and his family and friends meant so much to this great man.

Let’s give this cowboy one more Yee-Haw as he rides his horse off to new adventures. We love you and will never forget you.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Monday from 9:00 to 10:30 at the mortuary.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
