Sherman John Rebideau, 76, of West Plattsburgh, NY passed away peacefully on March 11, 2022 while surrounded by his loving family, due to complications from congestive heart failure.
Sherm or "S.J." as he was known, was born February 3, 1946 in Chazy Lake, NY to John "Pat" Rebideau and Leona (Dubrey) Rebideau.
Sherm graduated high school in Lyon Mountain, NY and shortly thereafter went to work for New York State. First at Wassaic State School, where he met his first wife Diana, and then later with the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. He enjoyed a long "legendary" career in corrections and retired after 37 ½ years of service. During his tenure with NYSDOCCS he received many certifications in weapons training, defensive tactics, and chemical agents, to name just a few. He also became a certified Smith & Wesson and Remington Armorer, achievements he was very proud of.
Sherm was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and had a deep passion for the pursuit of whitetail deer. He enjoyed a very successful hunting career, with many of his trophies adorning his home. He also enjoyed spending time at his family camp on Chazy Lake, giving boat rides and sharing stories.
Sherm had a love for all sports and was a devoted fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and Syracuse Orangemen. As a competitor, S.J. was a fierce opponent. Whether playing softball in his many years at the American Legion in West Plattsburgh or bowling in a weekly league, to Sherm there was only one option – winning. Sherm also had a passion for golf. He played in countless leagues and tournaments, winning quite a few over the years. He enjoyed his membership at Malone Golf Club for many years, always playing in the Father's Day and Member/Guest tournaments with family and friends. Not too many weekends passed in the summer when he could not be found on the golf course. Sherm also served as a youth baseball and basketball coach for many years in the local community, he touched countless lives and will be fondly remembered by those who played for him.
Sherm was pre-deceased by his father and mother, a sister Carol (Coplen), brothers-in-law Frank King and Crawford "Gus" Bryant, and his nephew Jeff King.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 37 years Tina, his sister Kathleen (King), his brother Jon and wife Sue (Gilbo), his son Lance and wife Sue, his son Justin and wife Jess (Fennell) with grandson Henry, and his son Kyle. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Carol Bryant, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
As per Sherman's request, there will be no calling hours or services. There will be a celebration of his life party this summer at his beloved camp on Chazy Lake. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the devoted medical staff at CVPH Cardiac Short Stay and the Intensive Care Unit for their outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Sherman's name.

I worked as a co trainer with Sherm on many occassions. He was always steady and professional.... and that dry dry sense of humor.

Tina I just want to tell you I´m so sorry to hear of your loss. I don´t know if you remember me but we went to school together in Saranac. Your husband was the one who saved me back in 1996 when I was trapped on my car in the flood! Again condolences to your whole family.
