Ms. Sherrie Lynette Carden came to grace this earth on August 12, 1963, to her parents Claudia Griffin and Lloyd Brown (now deceased). She was the youngest of four siblings: Milladge Griffin, Jr. (deceased), Cecilia (Ronald) Golden, Sheila Griffin Jackson and Jeffrey (Sandra) Griffin. Her smile, genuinely caring heart and infectious laugh were generously shared with whomever she met. To know Sherrie was to love Sherrie. That was especially true for babies, children and young adults.
Sherrie is a 1981 graduate of the Edison Technical & Occupational Education Center. She attended Buffalo State University, graduated from Nyack School of Business and Leadership and earned a master's degree in health administration from Roberts Wesleyan University (2015). Intellectually curious and committed to helping others, Sherrie worked in various industries: Insurance as an Underwriter; Healthcare as a Certified Nursing Assistant; and Education as a teacher, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She loved to travel internationally, visiting several cities in Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, the Canary Islands and Sweden. She also enjoyed visiting family and friends throughout the U.S.
Sherrie was a consummate aunt to her many nieces and nephews which span 3 generations. All her nieces and nephews can attest to her making sure that she had cotton candy, hot, hot fries and any other junk food that they could not have at home. Her pranks and jokes brought both laughter and terror, followed by laughter, to them. During early developmental stages, to give their mom a break, the children of her niece, Korine, spent extended stays with Sherrie and former husband, Dennis whom she married in 1987. Their home was always welcoming and full of laughter. Nieces and nephews while away at college were surprised regularly by a package of peppermints and some cash. There was no time too early or too late for them to call; they would always find a compassionate, listening ear.
In addition to her sisters and brother, Sherrie leaves to mourn her passing her nieces: Monique (Carl) Cannon, Commissioner Jacqueline D. Griffin (Larry Copeland), Korine Walker, Chaton Turner, Jeryn Turner, Dr. Sheniece (Griffin) (Christopher) El Martin-Stancil-El and Fawn Griffin; Nephews: Dr. Milladge Esquire (Bridget) Griffin III, Jeffrey (Iva) Griffin II, Adam Golden and Bryce Duncan; Great Nieces: Brynna, and Bryonna Walker (who she considered her baby), English, London and Monaco Griffin; Neema Smith and Amaya El Martin-Stancil-El; Great nephews: Teddy and Tanika Hill, Caden and Caleb Copeland, Andreaus Hampton, Jason and Jayvon Coleman, Roman and Lucas Smith; Great, Great nephews: Travaris Spears, Julien Hill, Lamont Hill, Teddy Hill Jr., and Great nieces Tanaya Hill and Malaya Lamare. She leaves a host of cousins, with a very special cousin and friend Jeannean (John) Lightfoot and devoted friend, Karen Griffin.
Sherrie, our hearts are broken; you are truly irreplaceable. We will love you forever. May you remain forever young!

So many memories, it's hard to just find one
Someone who taught me how to laugh and have fun
An overwhelming cup is how you would always pour
Leaving all in awe of you and wanting much more
I am at a loss for words, struggling with what to say
My wish is that you would be here & that you could stay
You understood you assignment, you answered the call
To be best aunt who showed us love and how to have a ball
You will be forever in my heart and missed
Please hug the ancestors & give grandmommy a kiss

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Sherrie was a beautiful person inside and out. We worked together at MetLife and she was more than a friend like a sister. I can´t believe she is gone but I will never forget her. Rest in peace my dear friend! Love you always!!
