Age 76, of Coal City, Illinois, and formerly of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away on December 2, 2025, at Morris Hospital.
Born on August 21, 1949, in Ottawa, she was the daughter of Ralph and Betty (Scaggs) Mitchell. Sherill was raised in Ottawa and graduated with the Ottawa High School Class of 1967. She dedicated over 19 years of her career as a billing clerk at Pleasant View Lutheran Nursing Home.
Sherrill had a love for sewing, reading, and spending time at the beach. She was known for her kindness and generosity, always welcoming others with open arms and treating everyone like family. Her warm heart and giving spirit touched many lives, along with a kind word for anyone she encountered, and she always sought to bring a smile to those around her. Sherrill loved her family fiercely and saw her role as a mother and grandmother to be her greatest accomplishment. She kept her family close and was the kindest, most loving woman anyone could ask for.
She is survived by her children: Traci (John) Pogliano, of Coal City, Tara (Scott) Rhyner of Blanchardville, Wisconsin, Trisha (Craig) Parsons of Spring Valley, Illinois; grandchildren: Jessica and Jacob (Emma) Pogliano, Owen (Rachel) and Caden (Cayla) Rhyner - United States Army, Raymond Reed - United States Marine Corps, and Rebecca Reed - United States Marine Corps; great grandchildren: Michael Pogliano, and Milana Pogliano; two sisters: Shellie (Rick) Olesen, and Tamara (Dave) Sipula; nieces and nephews: Kristie Bowers, Kevin Olesen, Kyle Olesen, Emily Pender, Matt Mitchell, and Mark Mitchell; as well as several cousins and her special friends: Dixie Wells, Karen Magana, and Pam Hess.
Sherrill was preceded in death by her parents; brother Ralph A. Mitchell, sister-in-law, Mary Jane Mitchell, and her loving aunt Ruthie Yanko.
Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and a celebration of Sherrill’s life will be held in the spring of 2026.
Memorials may be made as gifts in Sherrill’s honor to the Susan G. Komen Foundation (13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380), a cause that was deeply meaningful to her.
