Sherrill Anne Schmalstig (Kennedy), lovingly known as Sherry or Granny, passed away surrounded by family on September 3, 2025, at the age of 74. Sherry was born on February 10, 1951, in National City, California, to Basil and Rosanna Kennedy. She grew up alongside her two older brothers Dale and Denis, and from a young age developed a love for adventure. She cherished four-wheeling in the sand dunes of San Deigo, camping, surfing, and square dancing. Sherry was blessed with three daughters; Kimberly, Shell and Tracy, who were the light of her life. She was a proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply. Service was an important part of Sherry's life. She began volunteering at the food bank in Redding, California, in 1998 and continued her service after moving to Utah in 2005, where she served faithfully until 2020. In Utah she found her strong devotion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was a guiding light in her later years. Sherry also had a gift for creativity and detail, becoming a talented seamstress known for sewing beautiful dance outfits that will be treasured by many. She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, devotion to family, her faith, and the biggest warmest bear hugs that would rumble your tummy until you felt better. Sherry is survived by her daughters Shell and Tracy, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and brother Denis. She is preceded in death by her parents Basil and Rose, stepmother Mary Kennedy, her daughter Kimberly, and her brother Dale. A celebration of life will be held in October (date TBA). In lieu of flowers the family would love for you to donate to your local food bank. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Monument Health Care, and Suncrest Hospice. They all showed incredible kindness, compassion, and love.
