Sherry Burns, born on July 29, 1951, to Calvin and Annie Wade Johnson in Rains County, Texas, passed away on August 19, 2025. A beloved member of the community, Sherry was known for her loving, caring, and supportive nature. Raised in Emory, she was a proud member of the Rains class of ’69 and was a member of the Rains Rainettes.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Wilson-Orwosky Chapel at 10AM, with Steve Bishop officiating. A visitation will be held at 9AM at Wilson-Orwosky Chapel. Interment will follow at Dunbar Cemetery with Josh Costley, Adrian Pena, Sean Terry, Bentley Davis, Houston Harringan and Harley Harringan as pallbearers.

Her life was deeply enriched by her family, who were her pride and joy. She dedicated herself to the upbringing and happiness of her children. Affectionately known for her warm smile and nurturing spirit, her world truly revolved around her kids and grandkids, shaping her into a remarkable mother.

Sherry celebrated a beautiful relationship with James Burns. Together for 29 years and married for 24, their partnership was a testament to love and commitment, inspiring those around them with their devotion to one another.

She enjoyed competing in chili cook-offs, where her culinary skills shone through, and she found joy in painting landscapes, capturing the beauty of the world around her through her art.

Sherry is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 24 years, James Burns; mother, Annie Johnson; children, Daren Davis and Carrie, Michelle Burns and Don, Coy Terry and Carmen, Stacy Gilbreath and Jerry, Valerie Barnes, Donna Busby, Tonya Scroggins, Michael Burns and Keara; 20 grandchildren, 15 Great-grandchildren as well as numerous cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Calvin Johnson.

Her legacy will undoubtedly live on, cherished by all who knew her. Sherry Burns will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but also for the warmth, love, and support she offered to her family and friends. As we reflect on her life, we celebrate a remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on the hearts of many.
