Sherry Harrington Obituary

Sherry Ann Harrington

September 4, 1953 - March 7, 2026

Sherry Ann Harrington, 72, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on March 7, 2026.

Sherry was born on September 4, 1953, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Davis B. Harrington and Mary M. Harrington White. Her life was one of adventure, courage, and connection, as she lived in many places and built lasting friendships wherever she went.

Throughout her career, Sherry worked for several well-known companies. She began with Braniff Airlines in the late 1970s and early 1980s, followed by American Express in the 1980s and 1990s. In the early 2000s, she worked for Gateway 2000 and later at the Kansas City and Virginia Art Institutes from 2000 to 2010. Sherry was known for her dedication and professionalism, and she formed many friendships along the way.

Sherry lived a life full of movement and discovery. She spent her childhood years in Mississippi during the 1950s, later living in Puerto Rico in the 1960s and 1970s. Her journey then took her to Oklahoma City in the mid to late 1970s, Kansas City, Missouri in the early to mid-1980s, and back to Oklahoma City until 1992. She lived in Atlanta, Georgia from 1992 to 1997, Liberty, Missouri from 1997 to 2014, and finally made Virginia Beach her home from 2014 until her passing.

In 2014, Sherry made the courageous decision to move to Virginia Beach on her own so she could live near the ocean she loved so much. With no contacts and no home waiting for her, she started fresh and built a wonderful life for herself in a new city, forming deep friendships and becoming part of a loving church community.

Sherry loved to travel and treasured her time with friends and her church family at Baylake United Methodist Church. One of her proudest accomplishments was volunteering at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, an experience she always remembered with great pride.

Sherry is survived by her nephew, Trent Tinker and his wife Heather of Olathe, Kansas; Dalton and Allyson Hayse-Tinker of Mission, Kansas; and Hunter Tinker of Olathe, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Davis B. Harrington and Mary M. Harrington White; her sister, Jean Bernadine Tinker (Harrington); and her brother-in-law, Rev. Timothy G. Tinker.

Sherry will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and her church family. Her courage, kindness, and adventurous spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held at Baylake United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. Further details will be announced by the family.
