Sherry Lynn Gregg Harris, 78, of Decatur went to be with our Lord Saturday, July 5th, 2025. Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 10th at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery #1. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends, family, former students, and community members are invited to join in remembering a life so beautifully lived. Gerre Joiner will officiate. Pallbearers include Rodney Quinn, Shayne Harris, Todd Harris, Jake Warner, Calvin Thompson, and Cameron North. Honorary Pallbearers include, Steve Warner, Mike Ostrom, Scott Sohl, Waylon Sohl, and Kerry Clower.

Sherry was a lifelong resident of Wise County, Texas, where she spent her life devoted to family, education, community, and service.

Sherry was born September 21, 1946 to Robert Nolen Gregg Jr and Rosalie Mann Gregg, who instilled in her the values of kindness, hard work, and compassion that she would carry throughout her life. She was united in marriage July 19, 1976 to Henry Buck Harris Jr in Decatur, TX. She dedicated over 40 years to special education, working as a teacher with an unwavering passion for helping students thrive. Her love for teaching didn’t stop in the classroom—Sherry also delivered mail in Boyd, Texas, forming deep bonds with the community she served with warmth and dedication.

Sherry’s commitment to children and education extended far beyond her career. She was an enthusiastic participant in summer programs such as the Butch Clark Summer Camp and the Wise County Olympathon, where she helped children learn, grow, and build lasting memories. Her energy and love of teaching never dimmed, even in retirement.

Deeply involved in her community, Sherry served for many years as secretary of Pleasant Grove Cemetery #1, preserving local history and honoring those who came before. She was also an active member of both the Wise County Historical Society and the Wise County Historical Commission, where she worked tirelessly to protect and celebrate the heritage of the place she called home.

Sherry was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity, and steadfast spirit. Her wisdom, laughter, and compassion will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Nolen Gregg Jr and Rosalie Mann Gregg, and her beloved husband, Henry Buck Harris Jr, with whom she shared a life of love and partnership.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Ashley Sohl and husband Scott of Paradise, and Audra Harris of Decatur; her adored grandson, Waylon Sohl; her loving sisters, Jill Eder and husband Richard of Paradise, Robbie Weaver and husband Richard of Megargel, and Dana Brooks and husband Philip of Decatur. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a wide circle of friends who will forever hold her in their hearts. If you would like to make donations the family asks that they be made in Sherry’s memory to: Wise County Historical Society Wise County Historical Commission These organizations reflect Sherry’s deep love of history, community, and preserving the stories that shape us all. Though she is no longer with us, Sherry’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will continue to inspire and guide all who knew her.
