SHERRY JONES Obituary

SHERRY JONES Sherry Marlene Jones, age 80, peacefully walked out of her family's arms and into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill. Until she took her last breath, Sherry's unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life and the guiding light that helped her to maintain the spirit of compassion, loyalty, and humility that was an inspiration to all who knew her. Sherry was born in Elwood on April 20, 1945, to the late Theodore and Geneva (Good) Sowash. Her parents were followers of Christ, and their heart's desire was to instill their beliefs in their children. Sherry attended church all of her life. This not only introduced her to her Savior, but also to the love of her life, David Jones. Sherry and David married on June 6, 1964, and continued their love story for 58 years before David's passing in 2022. Together, they built a life with three wonderful daughters, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, Sherry wore many hats and bore many talents. She worked several different places, including Mitchell Farms, J Lewis Small, and Main Street Wesleyan Church. Sherry retired in 2010 from Elwood Orthodontics, where she cared for the patients in her role as office manager for 26 years. During her free time, Sherry loved to sew, read, garden, and tole paint. Sherry also found great joy in playing host to her family and friends; she always went the extra mile to make their time together memorable. Her love for camping, bus trips, and fishing was a reflection of her adventurous spirit and appreciation for the outdoors. Above all, Sherry's favorite pastime was spending quality time with her family. She loved unconditionally, gave unselfishly, and provided words of profound wisdom. Sherry attended Main Street Wesleyan Church for many years, where she served as church secretary, board member, and was an active member of the church choir. Sherry was also a member of the card club, The Crazy 8's, Smalls Old Bookkeepers, and a participant in the Heartland Great Banquet Community. Her multifaceted life was a testament to her generous nature and her unwavering commitment to those she loved. Sherry is survived by her daughters, Melanie Brannum, April (Steve) Long, and Jennifer (Mark) Smith. She was a cherished Mamaw to Cherl (George) McPhearson, Derek (Ayla) Long, Nathaniel Long, Ryan ( Fiance Myra) Smith, Zachary Long, Blake Smith, Katelyn (Fiance Roy) Brannum, Lynnae Long, and Jenna Smith; great-grandchildren, Braxton McPhearson, Bella McPhearson, and Lincoln and EllieMae Long, who affectionately called her GiGi. Sherry is also survived by her brother, Charles (June) Sowash, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David, her parents, Theodore and Geneva; sister, Carol Dever, brother Larry Sowash, and son-in-law, Tony Brannum. Visitation for Sherry will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm at Dunnichay Funeral Home, 1113 South Anderson Street, Elwood, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the same venue with Pastor Tim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. In honor of Sherry's love for life and her cherished memories, we encourage you to leave your memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Your shared experiences will continue to keep her spirit alive in our hearts.
