Sherry Louise Krohn, a cherished pillar of the Ft. Walton Beach community and a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on May 26, 1945, in Brewton, Alabama, to Helen and James Braden, Sherry's life was a testament to the power of grace and resilience.
Destin, Florida, became Sherry's home in 1956, transforming from a quaint fishing village into the place where she would leave an indelible mark. Growing up, she was deeply involved in her family's motel and charter boat fishing business, developing a profound appreciation for the beauty and spirit of her coastal hometown. Sherry's love for Destin was evident to all who knew her, and her knowledge of the area was unmatched, a trait that later served her well in her 19-year tenure with the Ft. Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Sherry was a proud graduate of Choctawhatchee High School, and her pursuit of personal growth led her to obtain a cosmetology license, which she wore as a badge of lifelong learning and adaptability. Her commitment to her community was also reflected in her devout faith, as she was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Destin and St. Simon's on the Sound Episcopal Church in Ft. Walton Beach.
Family was the cornerstone of Sherry's life. She was a devoted daughter, a loving wife to her late husband Kenneth Krohn, a caring mother, and a proud grandmother. Her children, Tom, Kevin, and Krystal, along with her grandchildren, Dustin, Kyleigh, Roxy, and Jessie, were the light of her life, and they will carry the warmth of her love forever in their hearts.
Sherry's gentle spirit and compassion for others were her defining traits. She had an innate ability to empathize with those less fortunate, and her kindness left a lasting impact on the community she so dearly loved. Her physical presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit continues to inspire and uplift those who were blessed to know her.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Renee and Claire, who provided exceptional care as private caregivers, and to the staff of Destination Health and Rehabilitation Center in Destin for their unwavering support and kindness during Sherry's final days.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Helen and James Braden, her brother Drummond Braden, her husband Kenneth Krohn, her son Derrick Murray, and her nieces Susan Braden and Drummona Anderson, Sherry's legacy is carried on by her surviving family. Her sister Wendy Krieg (Tim) of Niceville, FL, her children, Tom Krohn (Gladys), Kevin Krohn (Amanda), and Krystal Krohn (Nick), her cherished grandchildren, and her nephews Tommy and Rodney Braden, will continue to honor her memory through their lives.
A service to celebrate Sherry's life will be held on Thursday, November 6th, at 11 am at Destin Memorial Cemetery. Her life was a beautiful journey of love, service, and faith, and her memory will forever be a blessing to all.
