Sherry was born in
Macon, Georgia on August 23, 1963. She was a daughter, mother, sister, Mimi, and sister friend. Sherry was proceeded in death by her father, Lawrence Randall Thompson and her brother, Lawrence, Jr. Sherry is survived by her mother, Brenda Thompson; brother, Michael Thompson; sister in love, Lisa Thompson; sister, Cynthia Anderson. Her lovely daughter, Aimee Sapp; her granddaughter, Kayla Sapp; grandsons, Elijah Sapp and Adrian Daniley; great grandson, Jordan Sapp aka "Dooty"; niece, Heather and Hannah Shouse; several cousins; several aunts, uncles and also her sister friends, Theresa Horn and Mr. Steve; Rita McGowan Armstrong and Greg. Tracy Polk and Tonya Moore.
Sherry grew up in Bloomfield in a time where if you did something wrong, a neighbor would spank you and send you home to get another whooping. She grew up riding bikes, playing softball and rollerskating with her friends that included The Smith girls, the Welding girls and the Mchwortes. Rumor has it that her and her friends set the woods on fire several times, I wonder what they were doing. Sherry attended Southwest High School. She graduated #79 out of a class of 1300 in 1981. During high school, she was involved in many extracurricular activities where she met and grew to love so many of y'all. Sherry attended Macon State College and received a Master of Business diploma. While in college, she worked her way through school at the Waffle House. One night, Hank Williams, Jr's tour bus stopped through for a bite to eat. He asked for a cup of coffee and Sherry said, "Do you want some sugar?" He told Sherry to stick her finger in it and swirl her finger around, and it would be sweet enough for him. She probably would have left that night with them if she didn't have Aimee to tend to and look after at home. Sherry received welfare for a while, and at that time they had a work program she attended. That's where sherry met April Scott. April had a major impact on Sherry's life causing her to change her career path to become a social worker. She wanted to return to others the love and compassion that April showed her. Sherry has touched many lives working as a social worker. Sherry worked with Bibb County DEFACS for over 30 years and retired from DEFACS in 2019. One special memory that she has is a young lady named Candace, Candance went to church with us and told her, "Mrs. Sherry, I used to hate your guts, but you have pushed me and made me the woman that I am today." Followed by a great big hug full of love.
Sherry has been a faithful member of Fall Line Church for over 35 years. Shery has served on many outreaches of the church, such as teaching children, food pantries, VBS, Woman's Conferences, door greeter, and anywhere else she has been asked to help out with. Sherry loved to play late night card games with her dad, uncle Jimmy, skeet and a few others including, Sandra and Crystal Ernest and Pat Diane. If you notice, there is a deck of cards in the casket with her. After kissing Jesus, she wants to play a game of cards with her loved ones. Sherry loved to travel; she took a trip to New York with the ladies of Harvest Cathedral. They blessed the city of New York with their finances. Sherry spent so much money, she had to buy a suitcase to bring home the extra pocketbooks and shoes she accumulated while in New York. They once had a woman conference and the speaker asked how many women loved shoes, Sherry instantly raised her hand. Sherry loved shoes so much, she and Vivian Porter were the two final contestants for who had the most shoes. Sherry won a necklace for having over 400 pairs of shoes.
She loved to cook and bake and send boxes of cookies and candys and sometimes even meals to close friends and family. Over the years, we all have patched Skint knees, hugged each other, been through high school breakups, we have married and divorced spouses, buried loved ones, laugh through the good times, cried through the bad times and raised our children together.
Those of you that know Sherry, knows she really loves Jesus, and she is finally in Heaven with her eternal father. She would love to see you again, and the only way to do that is if you have a relationship with Jesus and accepted him as your personal savior.
Sherry wants you to know that she loves you all, so deeply. She will see you all on the other side of heaven.
