Shirley Jean Bedan, born on October 6, 1945, and called home on October 10, 2025, was a vibrant soul whose laughter and creativity touched the lives of many.
Shirley was known as the life of the party; her ability to make those around her laugh was truly a gift. She brought joy and warmth to gatherings, often arriving with her signature dish—the famous potato salad that became a staple at many family celebrations and friendly get-togethers. A dedicated pharmacy technician, she served her community at Butt Drugs and Taylor Drugs for many years. Beyond her work, Shirley was an artist, a philanthropist, and a poet, channeling her creative spirit into various forms of expression. Her dedication to the arts, coupled with her commitment to giving back to the community, exemplified her belief in the power of creativity to uplift others. She was a long-time member of the Shrine of St. Martin of Tours in Louisville, where she found both inspiration and fellowship in that community.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Tamara Dodge, Kelly Bedan, and Sarah (Steven) Smith. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her spirit forward.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Delbert "Curly" Bowman and Dorothy (Albertson) Bowman Scully; her husband, Wayne Edward Bedan; and her sisters, Patricia Jones and Jayne Dennison.
As we remember Shirley Jean Bedan, let us celebrate a life characterized by love, laughter, and a profound commitment to family and community. Her legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
