In memory of my Aunt. Even though it may seem childlike now, I called her She She. I was told that when I was a little girl, I tried to say Shirley, and She She was what came out, perhaps in a childlike whisper. All my life that became my name for my Aunt, a term of endearment really. Our memories of a person are much more than a name though. These special memories of my Aunt are personal and unique based on what was good and true and shared between family. I fondly remember long sunny days spent with my Aunt, my Mother, and my cousins growing up on Folly Beach. I especially loved her egg salad sandwiches, and she always let me have two. I remember afternoons at her house playing Chubby Checker records , laughing, having fun...and trying to dance to the twist. As an adult, after losing my Mother, my Aunt became a good friend and a source of comfort and encouragement, helping to fill an empty place in my heart that she understood. She graciously offered her hospitality, a home cooked meal, and a sense of belonging. My Aunt was always available with an ear to listen and the words "I Love You"..when I needed them most. She used to say that she enjoyed our long talks about the olden days. I believe it was because we both remembered them well, with nostalgia and laughter. My Aunt has been a witness to my life and these are some of my very best memories of her life. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones.
